There is a reason this place rates at a damn near 5/5. The hotel, bar and club are all top of the line. Safe, clean and spectacular service all around. None of that tops an absolutely wonderful show. If you are a jazz fan, you just can't beat a KC legend with Lonnie and his trumpet! But even if Jazz isn't your favorite genre of music, you will for sure fall in love with Lonnie the entertainer. From amazing stories of Kansas City to his 50 plus years of performing, Lonnie makes you feel like this is his only show of the year! Pair that with a very nice meal, great drinks, and ideally a hotel room a few floors above you when done, and the Reno club is a date night or special occasion home run for any music/performance fan. To top it all Lonnie will go out of his way to meet you, talk and pretend like you were a vip! Just a great night out and look forward to returning with friends!!

I don’t usually write reviews. But I was compelled to because I was taken aback by just how great this show was and considering I’ve lived in Kansas City my whole life and never heard of it. Me and my fiancé went to show for our 2nd year dating anniversary and to celebrate 29 days til our wedding. We’re staying at the Ambassador Hotel on our wedding night. So it seemed an obvious choice. The sales staff suggested Lonnie’s to us and us both being fans of the performing arts thought it’d be great. I was not prepared for how INCREDIBLE it was! First of all let me say that Lonnie’s energy is OFF THE CHARTS! He came on to that just bursting at the seems with excitement. I thought, there’s no way he can carry this all night. But he did! That’s not to say he was overtop or anything. Just his enthusiasm was palpable! His appreciation for the history of Kansas City jazz was also notable. His charm, his stage presence, his aura… all awe inspiring! They played for 2.5 hours with only a 15 minute break towards the end. And during that break Lonnie went from table to table to greet everyone who was there to celebrate something. At our table he showed so much warmth and appreciation for us coming. It really built upon the intimate setting of the room. The 3 course dinner was also superb! While it is prefix and your choices are limited, the dishes are prepared perfectly! We both had the Caesar salad, I had the salmon, she had the beef Wellington, and we split the deserts. All items were delightful and were served atbthe perfect times throughout the show. Now I will say this: It isn’t cheap. Tickets that include the 3 course dinner are I think $115 each, but drinks are not included. And there is an automatic 20% gratuity for the staff. And there’s a space to tip the band, which i was more than happy to do considering how great they played. BUT, it is worth EVERY PENNY. Save this for a special occasion or for someone who LOVES jazz. You will not be disappointed!!! I hope to go back sometime soon!

This was a truly amazing experience. The service was exceptional, the atmosphere was romantic and intimate, and the food was absolutely exquisite. And then the show… Oh. My. Goodness. We all agreed it was the best performance we’ve ever seen. Lonnie McFadden is a consummate entertainer—effortlessly blending soft lyrics with bold melodies while playing his trumpet right along as he sings. His energy is unmatched. His three-piece band was outstanding as well. Between songs, he shared engaging stories, and yes… he tap dances! Arguably the highlight of the night. During intermission, he went from table to table, greeting guests and taking pictures. It made the evening feel personal and unforgettable. We will definitely be back—and if you’re reading this, you must go!

This is a great time, highly recommend. The food is very good, though slightly overpriced. Music is wonderful and Lonnie is a gifted entertainer, my wife really enjoyed the tap dancing. I thought he was a fabulous trumpet player but actually his singing was what really blew me away. The service was five full stars. Small suggestion- turn the background music up louder before the show and between sets to remove the awkward silence

We didn't know quite what to expect but knew this jazz club got the best ratings in Kansas City so we purchased the Ambassador hotel's package. The entire experience was fantastic! It was far beyond our expectations. Lonnie is an outstanding entertainer, musician, singer and tap dancer. He brings a mountain of enthusiasm that kept us smiling and entertained throughout the show. His musicians are terrific too! Lonnie's Reno Club is a must-experience if you are in Kansas City and have any interest in live jazz performance. The hotel's package that includes Lonnie's show is also highly recommended.

A magical Kansas City experience. Elegant and spacious basement location. Photos welcome to your heart’s content on stage and with the band. Lonnie’s energy is through the roof and his band is full of top talent. Food is mouth-watering and deserts as well. Huge selection of wine. I went with IPA’s and the Black Manhattan. Not one person left without a smile. I arrived early and got free parking at a nearby meter.
