affordable food is a 10-15 minute walk. Not bad when its nice weather, but being stuck in fine dining hotel hell during the recent rains left few options as there is nothing all that close by. The train station is open late enough to be annoying and you can hear the train crossing alarms and the engines

👎 A flawed but acceptable experience, but an unacceptable value for >$500/night (>$600 night w/ all fees) for a stay in January 2026. Details below. Rooms - Comfortable and quiet bedroom with all the usual features. Bed is best for medium and soft sleepers, which I am, so that was good. 🛁Bathroom was not good — the tub was not clean (not filthy but there was some… stuff in there?), and the mirror light kept flickering. Service - Staff were friendly but the outcomes were not good.👨‍🔧Maintenance did not fix the mirror light, even after promising to fix it and being called twice. Fruit basket was nice but housekeeping did not take care of uneaten fruit that had begun to spoil. ☎️My Chase Edit credit also wasn’t applied so I had to sort it out with customer service later on. 💵 I did not appreciate the $50/day amenity fee given that it’s a non-resort hotel with fairly standard amenities (other than a very nice gym), or the $57/day self parking. The hotel restaurant is not good and comes with a 18% service charge. Breakfast is >$30 for cold food only, and hot food is extra. Despite the price, options are very basic and roughly at the same level you’d find at any other hotel or airport lounge. Individually, none of these issues would be fatal but put them together and you end up feeling nickel and dimed for a pretty subpar stay. I was extra disappointed because I had very good experiences at the IHG Kimpton in Taipei and the IHG Intercontinental in Singapore just a few weeks earlier and was excited to see how we stacked up at home in the US. Yeah… 😕 If you’ve read this far, here’s my advice: 🚫 Comparing this to a similar competitor? Go with the competitor. Don’t forget to factor in the fees into the sticker price. 🚫 Thinking of spending extra to upgrade from the basic business hotel experience? This ain’t it, chief. Stay with your usual and save your money. Or, splurge elsewhere, unless a pretty hotel exterior plus a fruit basket are worth $$$ to you. 🧾If you ignored my warnings above and decided to book… then please at least check your bill and make sure they calculated things right. This is more relevant if you booked through Chase Edit (or AMEX FHR if they are on there), where you’ll have a property credit that can be applied to parking or food.

I am a IHG Diamond Elite Ambassador, which is one of the highest levels of status in the IHG program. The Intercontinental San Diego gave me a crap room right next to the elevator. The particularly annoying part is that my profile with IHG specifically requests to be far from the elevator. When I checked out I complained about being assigned a crap room as a loyal IHG member and I mentioned that my preferences request a room far from the elevator. The person at the front desk say “we don’t read your IHG preferences so if you don’t want to be near the elevator you need to tell us when you check in”. The reality is that staff at this Intercontinental hotel don’t do their job professionally, but at other Intercontinental hotels they do check your preferences and they make sure to set aside a nice room for their most loyal customers. Intercontinental San Diego does neither. I do not recommend this hotel due to weak management and customer service.

Not quite a 4-star hotel due to just OK service, broken devices (e.g. half the treadmills), just OK facilities and just OK food choices. The rooms along the bay have nice views. And the rooms themselves are spacious and finished OK. Weirdly, our room had a tv attached to a metal rod which was bolted into the ground, presumably to minimize obstruct of the large glass window view. Wasn’t a big fan of that setup. The elevators were a mess: one set of elevators served the rooms, and floors 1-4; another set on the opposite side of the building served the ground floor and garages. Then there was the bizarre front desk location: on floor 3, NOT floor 1. Overall, the hotel was fine, but NOT a 4-star; more like 3.5.

This is a nice hotel in a great location. I booked this through the Chase portal to capture their hotel credit (CSR) and ended up paying more for the 2 nights than I expected due to the fees added at the hotel level. This was unfortunate. Edited to address hotel comment: California SB 478 prohibits hotels from adding additional fees after the booking. I am surprised this hotel engages in this practice.

Celebrated my college roommate's daughters wedding with a reception on the veranda. Beautiful, and great food and view of San Diego Bay

My wife and I stayed here for a special occasion and the service is atrocious. The cleaners didn't come until after 330 pm until we had to explicitly ask for earlier cleaning. I had surprise charges on my card when I got home, lo and behold they have a resort fee $58/night. It was never explained up front and when I asked for an invoice upon checkout, I was told there was no charge and I never received an email. On top of that, when I called for an explanation it was discovered that I was faulty charged an extra $37 for no explicable reason. The TV doesn't have a Guide or Chromecast or Movie channels, so it was subpar to say the least. The gym has no free weights, but almost excessive amounts of cardio machines. The pool was freezing and unswimmable!

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in December. Love the location, our room was spacious and clean, service was outstanding. i received a text each day from management asking me how my stay is going and if there is anything I need. We had some food and a drink at Vistal after checking in, I did not like the added 18% for staff and then wanted a tip on top of that.

Dismal service experience Waited for several hours just to get a set of cutlery and a plate to the room. It was supposed to be a elevated stay booked with a premium travel experience. But turned quite the opposite. Wait at breakfast was also long and then to only find your order brought out wrong after another 40 minutes of wait. Except for valet guys, nothing was great.

Disappointed. Very pricey, the breakfast isn't much more than any Holiday Inn Express. The rooms are fine, everything else is very pricey. I know it's San Diego but the management needs to better understand their customers. I won't be back to this hotel, there are equivalent hotels all around that are better value.
