We were really excited about spending our last night in San Diego at this hotel because every hotel experience during our trip until this stay was fantastic. The intercontinental fell very short from being an accommodating hotel and enjoyable experience. For a hotel of its caliber they were not accommodating to any of our simple requests. First we called to ensure we could get a king room when we checked in because we knew we’d be checking in late. We were told it’d be a king room facing the water and upon checking they seemed to have no recollection or notes on that call. We then called to request a mini fridge to store some personal items and medication. We were told it would be an extra $30 per night to rent it. We then asked if we could use the “resort credit” of $23 with room service or other options on the property but were told no, we can only use the credit at the two restaurants on the property both of which were closed. In the morning we asked for a late check out to 12pm and were straight up told no without any other solutions such as offering to store our bags etc. by this point we were frustrated and asked to speak to a manager who said if we signed up for IHG rewards we could get an extra hour. Had I not asked to speak to a manager I wouldn’t have been offered this option. If you clearly do have the ability to offer extended check out why is the initial response a flat out no. The customer service is severely lacking and for an entity that is strictly based on hospitality, the hospitality was completely missing. We stayed at 4 different hotels during our trip to San Diego, from hiltons to fairmonts and previously lower star hotels such as comfort inns. We’ve also stayed at many intercontinental across north america and have never been asked to pay for a mini fridge to store personal items. They either come already equipped with them or offer them complimentary when requested. We have also never had an issue requesting check out for an additional hour. Very understandable but some policies are out of the control of the workers and managers at the hotel, but the serious lack of customer service is something they do have control over and is non existent.
This hotel should be studied for its excellence in hospitality. Everyone we interacted with on every level was fantastic: personable, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and fun! Some of our favorites were: Destiny, Nathy, Sheila, and, of course, Dee H. Our plans to stay with friends fell apart last minute, so I had to make a last minute booking and Dee was super accommodating and easy to chat with. We were in town celebrating my daughter‘s 17th birthday and I asked if there’s anything she could do to make it memorable it would be appreciated. Not only did she upgrade us to a beautiful bay front view, but she also sent up an amenity cart with strawberries and champagne. Somebody please give her Employee of the Year!!!!! I can’t say enough awesome things about this property, the people, the food and the location. You guys all rock! Thanks for the wonderful experience! We’!! be back!
Of all the hotels I stay in, this one belongs to the top five. What an amazing Place, with fantastic staff, beautiful rooms with a stunning view, a delicious breakfast and again, fantastic, helpful, friendly staff. The rooms are very comfortable and the bed is great. The bathroom is big enough and had everything you need. The rooms are spacious and a real home away from home. Downside for me personally is that even after switching off the AC, I still hear this zooming noise of the central building system in my room, but thanks to my earplugs I still had two restful nights and I slept like a baby.
One of the best hotels I’ve visited. Rooms were clean, spacious, and had a great view of San Diego Bay. Hotel bar had quick service and quality cocktails. Hotel gym had everything I needed. I traveled for a conference, but brought my family (wife, 2 kids). The hotel pool is perfect for young kids. 3-4ft deep. The bellman, Kirk Larowe, was so helpful getting us into our room upon arrival. After traveling all day with young kids, all we wanted to do was get to our room and decompress, and Kirk made it easy for us. Also, the staff brought us a crib and a nice bath package for the baby with gentle soaps and sponges. It was a nice touch. Finally, we used valet all 5 days, which made coming/going with 2 kids and car seats super easy. I won’t stay anywhere else when I’m in San Diego now. 10/10.
Typically stay at Hilton but I was pleasantly surprised. This hotel was extremely nice, clean, awesome views and service was fantastic.
This hotel is a nice play to stay if you plan on staying for a night, but anything beyond that you can consider this place as a tourist trap. First of all, if you’re provided any snacks in your room, don’t put it anywhere other than its original place because if you put it somewhere else and check out of your room and return, they’ll have refilled it but they’re automatically gonna charge you another $10+ and you have to go back to the front desk to get it resolved which negatively impacted our experience here. Also, they’d rather focus on checking whether you ate the snacks or not and refilling it rather than taking out the trash you have in your room and help maintain it which also gave us a frustrating experience. Overall I would say it’s a nice hotel at a pretty decent location but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re gonna stay for more than a night.
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel in San Diego. The location is so convenient, it is walkable to many restaurants, bars and the harbor! Rooms were clean and updated. Our stay was enhanced by the wonderful staff at the hotel. One member of the team, Kirk, really stood out with the exceptional service he provided when we arrived at the hotel He not only helped with our many bags but took the time to offer us recommendations for restaurants, bars etc and answered all of questions about the area. He went above and beyond to make us feel at home! We hope to return soon and will definitely stay at the Intercontinental!
The non suite room is kind of meh ... ambassador benefits is non existent lol lounge food is ok if u dont compare to Europe or asian counter part . Underground parking
We enjoyed a four-night stay here. The location was great, and we could see the Midway aircraft carrier right from our room. Two downsides: (1) the bathroom water pressure was quite low, and (2) the welcome letter mentioned a 15% discount for in-hotel dining, but we were told after dinner that it doesn’t apply on Mondays and Tuesdays — which was disappointing.
I visited Seneca Restaurant with a group of friends. It is a beautiful location with breathtaking views, great food and drinks.
