This is by far the worst place to be in an emergency. The whole point of an emergency room is the fact that its an emergency. The health system in the US is just a joke with all the high cost of health insurance you still get treated like statistics... and then we got kicked out of the room because we complained ...what a shame St Joseph hospital. Do better! ... sucks!
We had all our 5 children delivered at St. Joe's hospital. They were very nice nurses there. We had the same doctor every time. There is no place better to go. Everyone is important there.
St. Joseph Medical Center is where I gave birth to my first child, Adam. I was happy and excited, and I never felt scared because the nurses and assistants were always smiling at me. Honestly, their service was very, very professional, and I felt like a princess. They treated me with such elegance. Thank you for your wonderful care, and if I have another child, I will definitely choose the same hospital. Thank you!😍
My family has been using this hospital since the 1960's and I continue that legacy today. I can trust St. Joseph's hospital with my life which they just saved again. I had a medical port implant(Central venous catheter) for taking IV's at home. I've had it implanted for 15 years with no problems. Recently, another hospital tried to access it not knowing what they were doing and it became infected. I had no choice but to go to the other hospital as the ambulance did not run downtown from this location. I had developed septicemia(blood poisoning) and fungemia with a temperature of 104°F or 40°C. It was very serious and required surgery to remove the port system sadly. Then many days of extremely strong antibiotics and antifungals through an inserted PIC line. I remember some but not everything as I was in and out of consciousness. The nurses and doctors were great as always. They were short on rooms but found me a room in about 30 minutes. They admitted me to a special cardiac floor with camera and telemetry so they could monitor me constantly. They were very friendly and took exceptionally good care of me as always. I was there somewhere between seven and ten days. Memory is still a bit foggy. I was released to continue therapy at home. More IVs etc. I will always rate this hospital a 5/5. It's the best in my opinion. They have always taken good care of my family and I.
MY EXPERIENCE WAS TERRIBLE! I went into surgery with Dr Paul J. James, M.D., F.A.C.S. for a belly button hernia. Day of surgery: April 09, 2026 When I first met with Dr Paul James, I was told for my belly button hernia I was going to get clued up no stitches and a mesh would be placed to cover the hole. The day of surgery once again I was told by Dr Paul James and the nurses the sam thing no stitches and I’m getting glued up with the mesh. I get out of surgery I didn't get explained anything. I wasn't told how to take care of the wound. After a week I took off the bandage and I found that there was a piece of wire sticking out of my belly button. Weeks past and it was still there, I decided to follow up with Dr Paul James. When I went he told me that he decided to not use the mesh and decided to use stitches, but stitches that were placed inside me not on the outside of my belly button. He didn't want to give a reason why the game plan changed and why I wasn't told. I have called Dr Paul James' office 5 times and still haven't gotten explained why he changed the original plan I was told for surgery which was no stitches and I’m getting glued up with mesh covering the hole. Almost 2 months later and I still don't have an answer. The day of surgery I told the nurses that I am scared of needles. Most of the time after making that statement the nurses are more focus on me being calm and relax because they know this situation stresses me out. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case at this hospital. The anesthesiologist thought it was funny to pretend that he was going to put a needle into my neck to put me to sleep before surgery. I will say I truly didn't appreciate that, it made me feel very uncomfortable. While he kept doing it and pretending to put the needle in my neck, I told him to stop multiple times. Overall my experience was terrible.
Not everyone will have the same experiences but just be aware to make sure you leave with all your new borns documents and your ID after being registered because my ID was lost after I was registered and I was in labor so got distracted and didn't ask for it til after my discharge which was 3 days later and nobody could find it and then come to find out I wasn't given all my babies medical documents that was supposed to be given to me so pediatrician had to request documents from hospital. It's a decent hospital that does pay attention to there woman in labor and care just make sure to ask all the right questions and concerns.
This is the worst hospital ever! I don’t know. why it’s called a hospital. This place should truly be your last option. If you have insurance then insist on going to the medical Center if you have to be transported to a hospital due to an accident. My son was involved in an auto accident that totaled his truck. Due to the location of the accident the ambulance took him to the closet hospital, St. Joseph’s. I told my family that whenever you are being transported by ambulance insist On Hermann Memorial or Methodist hospital. Never go to St. Josph’s. Why you ask? Because the facility is poorly lit & staffed. It not very clean & doesn’t smell like a sterile environment. The staff is rude & ill equipped to handle civilized people. I’m glad the hospital is there for the needy & homeless; but everyone deserves competent & compassionate care. Don’t go to St. Joseph’s if you want care & compassion & respect.🙏
I had a VERY good experience there. Everyone was very kind, supportive, and took very good care of me. Any type of procedure is stressful, mine was pretty minor I would say, and they made it easy. I would recommend this hospital to anyone. I'm sorry I can't remember their names. I do remember a pre-op nurse named Viet I believe, she got me plenty of blankets that felt like they just came out of the dryer, all nice and warm. Dr. Avila took care of business. Thank you one and all
St. Joseph Hospital consistently delivers exceptional care. The case managers and entire CM team are highly organized, responsive, and truly dedicated to ensuring patients and families feel supported every step of the way. The floor nurses are equally outstanding, attentive, compassionate, and always focused on providing comfort and quality care. Their professionalism and kindness do not go unnoticed. A highly recommended hospital for anyone seeking a team that genuinely prioritizes patient well-being.
Sadly this Hospital deserves no stars.. It is truly disheartneing because my daughter was born here in the Women's Building and the NICU was the BEST for my Premi, I thought years ago (28yrs) that this was 1 of the best hospitals downtown. THAT HAS CHANGED!!! It's the worst!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You would think over the years there would be improvments... Not this place it has falling to the dumps.... The state needs to be called on the place they have no running hot water for the patients, the nurses and the security guard that sits in the ER are lazy and rude. The Nurses on the 5th floor do nothing but sit and talk the whole shift. Not to mention my mom was here for 5 days and they did absolulety NOTHING,. It's sad to say because everyone needs a job these days but this place needs to SHUT DOWN for good it's horrible
