I stopped by Once Upon a Child during my free time, intending to make a purchase, but found a handwritten sign stating the store was closed until 4:30PM because only one employee was working. I understood and waited in my car. However, I noticed that as other people arrived, the employee started letting them in while I was still waiting. This felt like unfair treatment and poor customer service. If the store is closed, it should be closed to everyone—not just selectively reopened. This experience left a bad impression!
Looking at the reviews I should have not given them the chance. I called yesterday and asked about the buyout requirements. The lady did not mention a specific size of bin. Everything is laid out. I prepared last night. I do have 2 kids with me and drove from downtown to this location. And as soon as I walked in, I saw the sign that said buy out closed at 4 pm. Mind you lady that I spoke yesterday said at 5:30 pm. Then this person right away comes up and said your bin is too big, I was upset, and I immediately told her, I called yesterday and I wasn't told any specific size of the bin. Now, by the looks of the reviews. This place needs a clean up with staff. How can this be tolerated? So many bad reviews for poor customer service and nothing is being done about it. When someone calls for information give accurate information or don't make your own rules. I went to the website and it said, to call ahead to find out what are you in need of. That's exactly what I did and asked for the times Never was told nor on the website says to bring in a specific size of bin. FIX THIS 😤
Fairly large selection was shopping for a bouncer, but it I got a running stroller instead and it was really good quality. I’m very pleased. Wish that the staff was a little bit more helpful. I was struggling getting out the door with my 4 month old baby and trying to bring out the stroller while they just looked at me. Old-fashioned hospitality ma’am do you need help getting to your car? Do you need help with just opening the door? Would have been nice. Edit: thank you for responding, and showing care and concern.
We just moved to the area, and I’ve gone twice, once for selling and once for shopping, neither times the staff was friendly. Honestly probably won’t be back. I’d rather drive further, for friendly service.
So the wait time to hear back for selling is absolutely ridiculous and I’ve shopped at busier once upon a child’s before. 2 days before hearing anything back is long. Their online presence is boring. Look up once upon a child Dayton mall on fb look up once upon a child Newport News VA. Was clean but cluttered the last time I went. Found some cute stuff.
I have found some nice items for the kids in the past, but I went today and the prices here are much higher than I remember. The regular price for a brand new H&M dress for kids costs $4.99 at H&M website (and actually on sale right now for $2.99), thrifted price at this store is $4.50 🤯 With that said, I do like the experience of thrifting and up cycling clothes, so I would have bought the dress, however, the cute one I considered buying had a small tear. The other competitor kids thrift store I like going to sells used H&M dresses for $1.99-2.50. I’m giving positive stars because in the past, I have had mostly great experiences with their buy counter. I don’t mind waiting days or even weeks for a buy offer because the clothes would just be sitting in my house anyway. I would suggest they update their cash registers or system. If I have a balance from a previous transaction, it would be convenient for them to apply it easily with a phone number. But the lady that attended me expected for me to be carrying a voucher code (I’m too disorganized for that). They figured it out at the end, but I felt bad they had to go through so much hassle to pull up my previous balance.
This place is such a huge rip off, they dont take clothes if they don't find them to worthy, plus if something had an older label they won't take it at all. Do not waste your time if you have normal children clothes apparently they need to be flawless!!! This place sucks, the people are slow and take forever. And everything is over priced for hand me downs!
I just had a baby and I won’t be returning to sell or buy. Some employees seem aloof or burnt out. Side comments I heard were unnecessary. Dissappointed in the basic customer service skills at a social job.
This is an amazing place to find gently used kid's clothes and toys. Always clean and organized the girls are always working their hearts out going throw the donations as fast as possible. This is also a fairly easy process, you bring a bin of your clothes in a nicely laying flat kinda way, then there is a kiosk to put a sticker on your bin and then they call you in a couple of hours when you’re done with your offer.
The clothes were very reasonably priced and the store was very organized. But how we were treated at the front register was unprofessional and just rude. The first employee who was charging me was amazing and sweet, it was the employee who came after to assist the employee even though I had already paid and was just waiting for my receipt. She cancelled my transaction and made me pay again. I get it accidents happen but the most she could have done was take accountability and apologize but instead I was rudely accused of not paying and then charged more after I was refunded the original payment.
