Merchant's Cafe and Saloon

Whoever that curly headed forever frat boy behind the bar on Tuesdays needs to learn to check for state seals before bending someone’s ID. Went on the underground tour and was told we’d get 10% off if we showed our stamp. Bartender was rude about it, and then fully bent my Real ID from Tennessee in half 3 hours before my flight because it “felt flimsy”. I made him give it back before he could do anything further to damage my property and showed him the hologram. I am a grown woman who definitely is not passing for under 21 (and wasn’t trying to?) it was incredibly unnecessary and my friends ending up closing and leaving because of his attitude.

For our stay in Seattle, we booked studio on 2nd floor, just above Merchant's cafee. The location is perfect, couple minutes walk to the Pioneer square. We never used taxi or public transport. I liked the coctails in the cafe, every evening after walk i had some.

Ended up here after the underground tour of Old Seattle and had a blast. We had the purple Seattle freeze. Chelsea was amazing, ask for her. The one with pigtails (there are 2).

What a great place!! Austin was our bartender and we loved the place because of him. Great vibes, wonderful atmosphere. Would definitely go back, the chicken wings were amazing and were hope Austin is working when we do go back.

We stopped in here for a couple drinks. The bartender was super friendly and provided great service. We had a few drinks and some food which was good bar food. The bartender told is about the ghost stories with the bar and the underground history. There is a book on the bar with stories. Real it was a binder with hand written stories from various people who worked or came to the bar. Really cool place and reasonable prices. Hats off to the bartender with telling the history of the place!

We were just overcharged at this restaurant about 2 hours ago. I have the menu right here in front of me. The Merchants Cheeseburger is 15 dollars and for fries, add 2 dollars. So now it’s 17 bucks, which was no problem. We ordered 2 of them. When the bill came, we were charged 22 dollars per burger. The bartender stood by the price and because we’re tourists, we just sucked it up and paid and left. This is a warning to all…. Don’t let them gig you like they did us.

Great downtown location. Historic building. The fryer was not operational so they had a very limited menu. However, if you ordered a burger for $18, you paid full price without the fries/side since they couldn't fry food. Burger was tasty, but very small. Not worth $18 for the burger alone.

An absolute gem. I had the fish sammie special with fries. So fresh and good! The wait staff was friendly, expedient, and engaging. Loved every minute.

Didn’t go in the door… called ahead to ask a menu question- staff were dismissive & rude. “We’re just a bar,”…. Why advertise a burger menu then? Previous owners ran a bar too, but they also appreciated the customer. We opted to have drinks elsewhere.
