Maybe the worst location of one of the worst companies in America. Kroger has destroyed a company that I once was proud to say started in Portland. The history behind this location is extensive and interesting, and I'm sad that I can't in good conscious return to this store again. Every couple months I shop here, forgetting what the last time was like. They're deceptive. They make it extremely difficult to get the prices they advertise. They treat every customer like a criminal. The final straw today was using self checkout. An item didn't scan, and I realized it as I got too close to the bag for the system's comfort. I had already brought it back to scan, but the system scolded me and then proceeded to force me to watch the video of myself. Then, it wouldn't proceed without someone coming over to clear it. She got into it and made us stand there and watch the video again. It's embarrassing, and it's not worth shopping here (yes, shopping, giving Fred Meyer money, not stealing) anymore. I left everything there and went over to New Seasons, happy to pay more for a better experience. But you know what? Milk was over a dollar cheaper here. Not everything is cheaper, but it's worth slightly higher prices to not be treated this way. And if it's not? I can shop at Safeway for a lot less or Winco for even less, and they both treat me better every single time I walk into one of their stores.
I came in tonight after just losing my dog and was helped by Ashley and I think Michelle (I’m not quite sure.) I was absolutely floored at their level of kindness and compassion during such a difficult time. They treated me with the utmost care. Kroger/Fred Meyer employees work a hard job and don’t often get as many thanks as they deserve. Their care and kindness meant the world to me. 20/10. Thank you for showing me that there are such good people in this world.
Lisa, who works at the self checkout area by the entrance next to the garden center, is rude to me every time I come in. She is hostile about helping customers and rude about issues with the checkout machines (which are constant).
This location (Gateway Fred Meyer) is now permanently closed, and the property is vacant. Some adjacent businesses are still open, and probably need your patronage now more than ever.
I love this supermarket. You can find whatever you need, their product offer is quite wide. Their employees are friendly, attentive and very helpful. The atmosphere is pleasant in general: good lighting and temperature, the facilities are tidy and their corridors are wide to walk through them. The products are well organized and signposted. The costs are varied, good discounts can be obtained.

I spoke to an employee at the meat department about an oxtail package that had hair in it. I was about to buy a bunch but seen that and changed my mind. After I told said employee, he stormed off and didn’t say anything to me. I come back two days later and the same oxtail package was put back. This is a reflection of management. Take care of your employees. Everybody is human
