Love the setting, atmosphere, decor and restroom cleanliness. All we had were cocktails and appetizers. Crab cakes were mid with no flavor and the deviled eggs were definitely missing about 2 or 3 ingredients. We had no entrees. If you’re looking for vibes and cocktails in a great downtown setting, this is it.
Dorothy’s Downtown – A Soulful Southern Gem in the Heart of Jacksonville We finally made it to Dorothy’s Downtown — and let me just say, it lived up to all the buzz and then some. This vibrant new spot, which opened its doors in May 2025, brings upscale Southern and Creole flavors to a beautifully reimagined space on Adams Street, right beneath Indochine. The energy here is warm and inviting, and you can feel the thoughtfulness behind every detail—from the food to the art on the walls. The menu? Bold, soulful, and deeply rooted in Southern charm. Everything is made from scratch, and it shows. Each dish felt like a celebration of flavor, tradition, and a little bit of kitchen magic. Here’s what we tried and absolutely loved: • 🦀 Crab Cakes with a zesty Cajun remoulade — perfectly crisp outside, rich and tender inside • 🍲 Fried Chicken Gumbo loaded with andouille sausage and served over fluffy yellow rice — comforting and full of depth • 🐟 Wild Salmon over Creole creamed spinach with Yukon Gold potatoes — balanced, fresh, and perfectly cooked • 🥩 Short Rib with a smoky roasted poblano chile sauce and Yukon Gold mash — melt-in-your-mouth good • 🍰 Banana Bread Pudding and Chantilly Cake — honestly, the kind of desserts you don’t forget Also, shoutout to Ayanna, our server—she was incredible. Friendly, knowledgeable, and made us feel right at home without missing a beat. We also couldn’t resist the French press coffee, and we’re not exaggerating when we say it might be the best in Jacksonville. Smooth, rich, and the perfect way to close out the night. Oh—and don’t miss their gorgeous covered courtyard out back. Brick pavers, local art murals, and cozy lighting—it’s like stepping into a little French Quarter hideaway. 📍Dorothy’s Downtown 21 Adams St, Jacksonville, FL Southern Creole cuisine, scratch-made cocktails, and pure hospitality. Whether it’s date night or just a craving for soulful food in a beautiful setting, Dorothy’s is an absolute must-visit.
Visited on a Thursday evening. Our server was very friendly, the food came out quickly and the dessert was delicious. One star off due to the hostess was quite snooty when we arrived, even though we had a reservation, she basically deposited us at the table and walked away. Where we were dining was also very loud, it was hard to hear each other for dinner conversation. I would visit again, but it's not my first choice.
Spectacular place...the creole pasta with andouille sausage was simply sublime...Ms. Ayanna was amazing...such a lucky find...
Enjoyed Brunch and bottomless mimosas with the ladies this past weekend. Love the changes since last visit when location was Burrito Gallery. Nice decor and atmosphere. Great service too. Didn't get pics during meal but sharing photos of leftover beignets , that were still delicious after reheating in air fryer. The only suggestion for management is to be careful with food presentation. My food was good, but chef can improve some with how food was plated. Visuals matter for all us amateur foodies. Will visit again.
Had such a good meal. Everything was great. We had a VIP experience at the Florida Theater that ended at 6:30 but show started at 7:30. I called ahead and they gave me a menu so we could place our orders ahead of time. Sat down at 6:35 and the food came out less than a minute later! Felt like we were VIPs. Everyone in our group had different things and loved them all. And Athan our waiter was so helpful with pairings for each or our dishes. Loved the salmon, pasta, short rib, pork chop and steak frites. And great vibe. So fun to find another spot for dinner downtown, especially before a show!
I hate writing this because I really wanted Dorothy’s Kitchen to be a favorite. I’d recommended it for months without ever going, so I had high expectations when I finally took my family for Father’s Day. It didn’t live up to them. Despite a reservation, we waited and were seated in a poor spot under a flickering light. It wasn’t busy, which made it more surprising. Our server, Kyle, was kind, but the food was the issue. My crab cakes were cold in the center. I understand off days happen, but this felt careless rather than just a mistake. To make matters worse, I got food poisoning and missed work. We won’t be back.
What an awesome space not just for Jacksonville but also downtown. They took what was an ordinary space and transformed it into a full experience, one you’d see in Charleston or DC. We had the short ribs, salads and drinks. All amazing. Our friend even had a mocktail and it was just as good as a regular drink. I absolutely love the vibe, the love put in and the staff. Absolutely a must visit.
Loved this place and experience! Came on Sunday evening before an event at the walkable distance from Florida theatre! The food was delicious and the the cocktails were the highlight and my favorite! I love the flavors and it’s beautiful! Highly recommend & Lee gave us amazing service!
Hubby and I enjoyed our first experience. The shrimp and grits dish was amazing. Their adult happy meal offers great food options paired with a fun cocktail.
