Dorothy’s is, to me, a hidden gem of greatness coming out of the kitchen. The food was incredibly tender, seasoned to perfection, and every dish was full of flavor. From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed and offered a seat at the bar, which I gladly took. Even though the restaurant was busy, the staff stayed attentive, checked on me consistently, and delivered A1 service the entire time. And if you don’t end your meal with those beignets, you’re missing out.

I took my mother to Dorothy’s to celebrate her birthday, and it was both of our first time visiting. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. My mother ordered the chicken and waffles, and I had the gumbo with yellow rice. The gumbo had a very dark roux that didn’t resemble or taste like traditional Creole gumbo. More concerning, my mother’s chicken was cold when it was served. After our food was delivered, our waitress was not present for about 20 minutes, so we didn’t have the opportunity to address the issue right away. By the time she returned, my mother had already eaten one piece of chicken. When I shared our concerns, she offered to bring another piece of chicken, but my mother declined as she was already full. I then asked if there could be some form of compensation, given that the food was served cold and we weren’t given a timely opportunity to have it corrected. The waitress stepped away, and when she returned, she explained that she had called the owner, who stated that he would not be giving any discounts. The only option offered was an additional piece of chicken to go—which didn’t feel like a reasonable solution. Realistically, who would want to take a single piece of chicken to go with nothing else to accompany it? At that point, it became less about the food and more about the principle. It’s disappointing when a business prioritizes policy over making things right for their customers. Because of this experience, I won’t be returning.

It is a little closer towards a 5. The food was spectacular, even in spite of an issue preventing the use of fryers, and creating a need to limit or change the available menu selections. The ability to pivot quickly and still maintain a high quality is very impressive. Really the only issue we had was with waiting at the front desk for a while before anyone noticed us. Overall great food, good service, and fantastic atmosphere!!!

Food was AMAZING. Our waiter was fantastic, went over the menu thoroughly and gave us cocktail and wine pairings with each entree. We were very impressed by the boudin balls ! Absolutely delicious and highly recommended! We will definitely be back!

This restaurant has potential, but I’m not sure they’ll take the necessary steps to become a great place to eat. The menu is limited and underwhelming. I decided to try the Cajun pasta, but it was just as disappointing. The pasta was bland and only came with sausage , there is an additional charge for chicken or shrimp. Why call it Cajun pasta if it’s only come with sausage? Overall, I think Copelands on the south side would be a better choice for lunch or dinner. They have exceptional menu items and flavors. Dorothy’s does have different drink specials after 3 p.m. that might excite some people, but that’s not enough to make up for the lack of quality food.

Met friends for Sunday brunch on a frigid & wet winter afternoon, and was so glad I braved the elements. The food was delicious, the cocktails tasty, and our lovely server was on top of it for us. I really love what they’ve done with this space, the ambience is great. The whole table loved our experience. I’m looking forward to adding this onto my favorites rotation. Looking forward to decent weather to check out the patio.

I encourage management and the owners of Dorothy’s Downtown to know who they are putting front facing to represent their brand. Cassie or Cassidy has to be one of the most unprofessional and out of touch members of the hospitality industry I’ve ever came across. To lose a reservation is one thing. She was slightly quick to rectify that mishap on their part. However, she quickly showed her discriminatory and disgusting true colors after offering drinks “on us for our mistake” to the early arrivals of our party. Which included the birthday girl. Then at the end of the night wanted us to pay. Paying for the drinks was never the problem. All professional woman with thriving careers. The delivery was unsettling. It went from we just pay, to Tori offering to comp half, to Cassie or Cassidy saying “I’ll take care of it this time, but this will not happen next time” Does she make a habit of speaking out of term to customers and offering items she has not intention on taking care of? Or does she make it a habit of telling a table full of woman of color “don’t think I’ll do this for you all again”? The proceeded to be condescending and passive aggressive at the end of the restaurant prepping silverware. No apology no accountability. Food was amazing. Mari our server was lovely. 10/10 for her. However I left with the worst taste in my mouth and judging but the other reviews there is a consistent issue with the “losing” of reservations. Maybe Cassie or Cassidy worked those days too. Do better so you can continue to be a vibrant and much needed restaurant in our community.

So let me say the ambiance is very nice, beautiful place. Staff was professional for the most part. Very much doing their job. However I took my sons and my dad here to celebrate my oldest 22nd birthday since their menu is centered around creole food. My family is originally from the Louisiana area so we are very keen on how creole food should taste and be presented. We all ordered the gumbo with fried chicken and immediately when I saw the dish I knew it wasn't real gumbo. Gumbo reaux should not be red like chili or stew, it should be dark brown. It was not good, it was salty and the fried chicken was raw in the middle we all had to send our chicken back since they would not allow us to switch our meal out for something more pleasant. Also, If you're going to serve fried chicken with gumbo don't place in the middle of the gumbo so when it's presented the chicken is now soggy and raw in the middle. No one wants wet fried chicken. Then when they recooked the fried chicken they only brought us 1 piece when the meal came with 2 and they were both raw and not eaten by anyone of us. You basically have to take an L for their mishap which is not cool. I didn't even ask for a refund just requested to switch out the meal for something more safe and pleasant so money wouldn't be wasted. I asked to speak to a manager and the waiter stated he was managing in place of the owners that evening. I asked was there anything that could be done. He stated all he could do is credit for first round of drinks ordered. Like I said very nice establishment but that food is not real creole food it's actually insulting to those who are from that area. I would only go for the ambiance to have a drink with friends if they wanted to go for whatever reason. I hate saying this, cause I don't even do reviews but this really made me feel a way. I gave it a 3 stars cause of the food we had, not sure about any other food items, this was my first experience at Dorothy's.
