Rented a car for one day. Office opened at 7am, picked the car up at 7:30. At pickup counter, service was thorough and professional. No problems. The return the next morning was a completely different story. I arrived at the garage a few minutes early, drove as instructed to the enclosed “cage” where the cars are safely stored. The entrance into the cage was locked, no attendant in site. There was no “legal” place to park, so I stopped in front of the cage and waited. At 7:00am sharp, I started to exit the car to go up to the office to complete the return transaction. At that point, the attendant (named “Phill”) appeared and launched into a profanity-laced tirade (including several F-bombs) at me. I calmly informed him that I was simply returning the vehicle, but he didn’t relent. This was perhaps the worst customer service that I’ve ever experienced in ANY type of business. I explained what happened to the agent at the desk. He gave me a blank stare and matter-of-factly apologized. I told him that this “Phill” needs to be reprimanded, probably even fired. There is no doubt that this was not the first such episode by Phill. He’s a ticking time bomb — be very careful around him. I only wish I’d had the wits about me to record the encounter. Never again at this Budget office in downtown Boston.

0/5 stars. Do NOT rent from Avis. We arrived at Avis to see a lobby full of upset people. I approached the counter and the woman working looked up my reservation - a CONFIRMED reservation made weeks in advance. She then proceeded to tell me they had "no cars available" and there was none available in "the whole city" and this was "common during holidays." It was 12/23 and we needed to get the car to make it to family- we had flown across the entire country to spend Christmas with loved ones. She said it would be "maybe 3 hours" before they had SOME cars available (mind you I was one of about 20 people waiting in the lobby) and took my phone number down and said she would call me when there was a car available. I never received that call. Thankfully, Enterprise saved the day- we showed up with no reservation and had a car within 30 minutes. Avis is predatory and is known for overbooking their rental cars. 0/5 service, 0/5 experience and will NEVER try and rent through Avis again.

Avoid this place. Book with a rental further out of town and ride share there. They only had one employee and each person they rented to took 20 to 30 minutes. There was a line out the door. Many people just gave up and left. The employee would try to scam every customer into getting the most expensive options. This woman told us the option we were getting would be a higher cost per mile. We did the calculation right there and we would have had to drive 7000 miles for it to make sense. Then she started backtracking blaming it on the computer. If you must go to this location, bring your paperwork and call them on it when they try to defraud you. Also get there before they open and get in line.
Radouane was amazing! We were totally frazzled driving in Boston and we were late for drop off (by a little), but Radouane was very patient and nice in getting us checked out. Thank you! We will definitely rent again downtown.
Vehicle was gross and unclean. Fuel cap was missing. 3/8 tank of gas. Tried to call Avis to get a swap and they wanted me to go to a location 20 miles away. Had to get it cleaned myself. Avoid!
