Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Midtown

Everything was good except for the security officer at the emergency room entrance around 7:30 PM on 07/27. She had short blonde hair and was extremely rude. I understand that working in an emergency room can be stressful, but patients and their families come there seeking medical care and compassion, not to be treated with disrespect. I hope the hospital administration addresses this, as first impressions and professionalism matter.

My husband, Wallace, just had back surgery. He had the best surgeon, Dr. Hampf. He did an outstanding job. We had the best nurse, Alyssa . She was so thorough in every detail. She was fantastic. She was explaining and teaching the others every step she took. We also had a great nurse practitioner. She was amazing in overseeing the details.

From the moment I checked in to my departure, it was a truly wonderful experience, especially thanks to my nurse, Makenzie, whose excellent and compassionate attention made a difference. I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my amazing doctor, Dr. Haline, for her professionalism, warmth, and unwavering support throughout my visit. The young man in the recovery room who gently wheeled me to my car was also exceptional, taking the time to talk and comfort me with genuine kindness. I am truly grateful for everything they did for me. Authentic conversations and making patients feel at ease mean so much, and it’s comforting to know that people genuinely care.

I cannot say enough good things about my experience in Labor & Delivery and Postpartum. From the moment I arrived, the nurses were absolutely exceptional. They were compassionate, attentive, knowledgeable, and made me feel safe and truly cared for during one of the most vulnerable and meaningful times of my life. In Labor & Delivery, my nurses were calm, encouraging, and incredibly supportive, advocating for me every step of the way. Postpartum, the care continued to be just as wonderful — patient, gentle, and attentive not only to my recovery but also to my baby’s needs. Every question was answered, every concern was taken seriously, and I never once felt rushed or dismissed. It’s clear these nurses don’t just do their jobs — they genuinely care. I am so grateful for the incredible team who helped bring my baby into the world and supported us afterward. Thank you for making this experience one I will always look back on with gratitude. 🤍

Amazing people. I brought my friend of 35 years to TN to help him out with health needs recently. He has advanced liver disease from cirrhosis of a transplanted liver due to Wilson's disease...something he was born with. When we arrived he didn't have insurance due to lag in setting up Tenncare. We had to make a visit to an ER which I won't name because I do my best to not throw stones. They were awful. Told us that draining 9 liters of fluid was not an emergency and treated me as a caregiver as though I had committed a crime by wasting their time. We had no choice. Nowhere to go and due to his ascites he needed immediate attention. They said he should be seeking outpatient care and be in a treatment program. I asked them what the options were and they had no answer. I asked them how to expedite TNCare. No answer. They belittled us and did all of this right in front of my friend who is dying from liver disease. We were gun shy to go back to an ER, but due to the mess the Healthcare system is, we still haven't been able to set up ongoing care for him in Nashville. So we had to goto the ER on Monday. This time we chose St Thomas. What an absolute blessing. They treated us like they cared. From start to finish. It was amazing. Not only did they take care of him but after draining 13.1 liters of fluid from his abdomen they admitted him, monitored him and treated us in a fashion that not only gave us hope but renewed our faith in the care that he could receive. Amazing people at every level. He is home now and hopefully with the results and information they provided we will be able to find the care he needs in the future. I arrived at Ascension St. Thomas on July 7. The treatment I received was beyond compare. The entire team explained my treatment in an easy to understand way. Their talent, compassion and diligence put my mind at ease. The nurses performed tasks that I deemed likely very unpleasant. The did so smiles and upbeat conversation. I'd like to express my heartfelt appreciation to: Doctors Atwater, McNeil and Ferrell. ICU NURSES Grace, Baylee, Ella and Alexis. And 7th floor nurses Bailey, Brianna and Santa Fe. You guys are all THE BEST!

Yesterday I underwent a total hip replacement at St. Thomas Midtown, and I cannot say enough good things about the experience. From the moment I arrived, every member of the team treated me with kindness, professionalism, and genuine compassion. Having worked in healthcare for many years myself, I know how much coordination, communication, and teamwork it takes to create a seamless patient experience—and this team delivered on every level. The nurses were exceptional. They kept me informed, comfortable, and reassured throughout the entire process. Every interaction felt personal, not rushed, and I always felt like I was in capable and caring hands. The surgical team was outstanding. They took the time to answer questions, explain what to expect, and make me feel confident and at ease before surgery. Their expertise was evident, but what stood out most was the compassion they showed. The recovery staff continued that same level of care after surgery, ensuring my pain was well managed and helping me begin the recovery process with confidence. Everyone I encountered seemed committed to providing excellent care and treating patients with dignity and respect. After years of dealing with hip pain, this surgery represents a new chapter for me, and I am incredibly grateful to the entire team at St. Thomas Midtown for helping make that possible. Thank you for the exceptional care, kindness, and professionalism. You made what could have been a stressful experience feel safe, supported, and hopeful.

I've nothing bad to say..tho each has their own experience..My mom had been there twice,sadly her second time she did not come home with us,passing away from cancer on 4-29-26..the staff was very kind,professional,attentive to every need of my mom and all of the family.She was treated like their own family member in her last week of life..making sure she was comfortable..staff members may not all be the same true..but hers were wonderful..and some went over and beyond..even the worker of palitive care that we saw..she cared about what we wanted and our decision for my mom..the one change that could be made is visiting rules for clergy..because some are like family especially ones of 10 years or more!!and ours being there brought comfort to my mom during her transition from this world..so please reconsider visitation rights.

Excellent care. The whole stay was the very best that I could have ever asked for. From the Nursing staff to the Doctors, they kept me from knocking on the door. I was 60 steps out of a 100 of changing dimensions. Thank you!

My husband was admitted to the emergency room, and there was literally no wait time. They got him right back. Every single nurse was attentive. He spent two days in the hospital and every single person he came in contact with had such a good bedside manner.He was really impressed.
