My sister was getting married in Korea and needed me to buy a modern yet traditional suit. I couldn’t find one anywhere, which led me to The Tailory. I told them what I was looking for, and the owner, actually sketched out the suit and helped me choose every detail from color to the traditional fabric covered button. They even went and SOURCED a ramie textile that I ended up using for my vest. The customer service I received from the design appointment to my fittings were incredibly professional, but most of all a really enjoyable process. I almost think I outshined my sister, but I was humble. Definitely coming back here for my own wedding!

I came to The Tailory for a suit for my upcoming wedding. Before reaching out for a consultation, I did some research by sending Direct Messages to previous clients, all of whom has great things to share. I had a consultation just to check out the vibe and see if we'd be compatible and immediately decided that Shao and Valerie would create my wedding suit! I went back a few months later and each interaction was great, the impeccable attention to detail, and the level of enthusiasm was all of what I wanted and expected. I now have my suit and it exceeded my expectations. I'm already trying to figure out other suits I'd like made. I highly recommend The Tailory!

I had been to so many tailors across the city trying to find an environment that felt supportive and understanding of the queer experience with clothing and fashion. Many tailors have the skill but not the understanding of what it means to be queer and need your clothes to express a certain emotion or fit a very particular way. Until I found The Tailory. The whole team was sensitive to my experience, identity, and style and went above and beyond without question to get the fit and cut perfect for the items I brought in. Even re-tailoring a whole item due to bust changes. I felt welcome and at ease through the whole process and they made sure I was happy with the end products before taking them home. Could not recommend enough from the smallest tailoring projects to the custom wedding suit/dress of your dreams.

I took a swing and went to The Tailory to create custom suits for me and my two sons for my wedding. They were incredible to work with. The suits came out better than I could have imagined. We stood out with original looks that fit perfectly. The entire process was easy and fun -- from design to check-ins to the final product. I highly recommend this team!

I found The Tailory looking for trans friendly tailors in NYC and had a generally pleasant experience - the staff were sweet and attentive, and given the very high price point I was expecting flawless work. The dress I received fits my silhouette very well but has uncut strings around the seams, is missing some of the elements discussed in the fitting, and is not dry-cleaned as I was told it would be, which would be easily covered within their very high price point. A positive experience, but unfortunately not one that lives up to its price tag, and I’m confident I could have gotten a similar alteration for half the cost.

After struggling to find someone in my hometown in Wisconsin who could help me, I finally got the chance to work with the team at The Tailory, and let me just say—they made everything SO easy! I’ve always found it hard to get a suit that doesn’t feel too masculine but still brings out the parts of me I want to highlight. From our first Zoom call, I felt like they really understood what I was looking for. They even did a test fitting with me, and I got the chance to fly out to New York for it (which, let’s be honest, was such a fun excuse to visit). I could already tell during that fitting that the suit was going to be absolutely perfect. And it was! I had let them know I was planning to lose same weight during and they helped me create a schedule for my fittings to plan accordingly and i couldn't be more thankful 🥰 What really impressed me was how quickly everything came together. It all arrived way sooner than I expected, which gave us time for a couple of extra fittings to make sure the fit was spot-on. The whole process was smooth, fun, and just felt tailored (pun intended!) to me. I couldn’t be happier with the final result. The suit is everything I hoped for and more. And now I get to have the wedding of my dreams with the suit of my dreams! Thank you, Tailory, for making me feel like my best self. 5 stars isn’t enough!

Hands down best tailor in the city. I felt incredibly comfortable and cared for throughout each step. I purchased my wedding tuxedo here and I will be going back for other bespoke suit wear. As a woman who is shorter and wears more masculine clothing, the fit was perfect. They are incredible!!!!! I absolutely love everyone that works there.

My wife & I worked with Shao & Dylan at The Tailory. It was our only regret from our wedding, so much that I am writing my first negative review ever to warn others. As a queer person with an androgynous style, I wanted a formal white jumpsuit that felt authentic to me & was neither a suit nor a dress. The Tailory was above the budget I had set, but I couldn't find anything else I liked & they assured me they could create exactly what I wanted, especially since I had a good reference image. At our design appointment, I was encouraged to use silk charmeuse, which they claimed would match my vision & elevate the formality. The fabric samples were tiny, glued to cardboard, giving no sense of how they would move or drape, but I trusted their expertise. Each appointment was extremely rushed. The test garment was so inaccurate that it couldn’t be evaluated properly — it had to be completely disassembled on my body because the fit was so off, missing requested details like pockets, had an unrequested collar added, etc. I was assured many times that the fabric of the final garment would be “totally different.” When I requested a second test garment (to avoid irreparable mistakes with the final fabric), this was dismissed as unneccessary. When the final jumpsuit arrived, my fears were confirmed. The recommended fabric lacked the structure needed for the design, resulting in a jumpsuit that fell limp & shapeless in an entirely unflattering manner that looked absolutely nothing like the reference. My wife & I dubbed it The Clown Suit because it looked like it belonged at the circus, not a wedding. The design still lacked both key details I’d explicitly requested & had things I had specifically requested to not be included. They claimed my requests were "impossible" (they weren’t, they just didn't want to use extra fabric to fix their mistakes) & blamed me for their inability to follow clear instructions. They were very arrogant. When I expressed my concerns & disappointment at their failure to properly guide on fabric selection (let alone accurately produce the design details discussed), they were incredibly defensive & accusatory. I was giving them an opportunity to fix their failure in providing a reasonable standard of care. Dylan responded by giving me a wildly false version of events about what happened during the design meeting months before, which was laughable since they were not even present. Their insulting solution was to suggest that I pay them another $3,000 for another outfit with a different fabric. Their refusal to take responsibility was compounded by constant administrative issues: rescheduled appointments, failure to notify when garments were ready until I inquired, chaotic communication. We showed up for our first fitting, scheduled during our design appointment, & they had no record that we were coming. They constantly showed disrespect for our time. Also, both my jumpsuit & my wife’s suit (all white) came back with multiple dark black & brown stains that professional dry cleaners couldn’t remove. My wife’s suit (a traditional design) turned out well in the end, but only after we pushed back on their defensiveness about design corrections. Fortunately, everything they didn’t listen to our original requests about on the suit could be fixed but we had to fight to get them to do it. For example, the lapel had the tiniest 1/8” rounded corner on it but we showed them a reference with a 3/4” rounded lapel. Her suit from Indochino last year, while certainly lower in quality, came with significantly better customer service at a fraction of the cost. The Tailory's T&C allow them to deliver you absolutely whatever product regardless of what you request with no recourse as a customer. They grossly oversell their ability to design custom outfits beyond stereotypical suits. They are not equipped to handle nontraditional designs & failed on every level of professionalism. Do not be fooled if they seem friendly and welcoming at first. They are not. Save your money, or at least, don't spend it at The Tailory.

This is the best fashion experience I have had so far. As a founder of a bespoke fashion company myself with years of perfecting clients’s fit and overall bespoke experience, I am quite critical of anything bespoke and custom fashion. However, I was blown away by the level of service I received from the Tailory guys. From the point of the inquiries to actually receiving my suit, I felt a great sense of comfort and peace with how everything went down. The attention to detail as well as the fitting process was next level. With my unique body features, I have always had difficulty getting the perfect fit, but I am happy to have found the Tailory. Everything about my experience was remarkable. Even more exciting was how well my suit fits. I highly recommend the Tailory for anything fashion and I would gladly spend more for the quality of service and product I received. The Tailory is simply unmatched in the bespoke custom fashion space period!

I loved my experience working with The Tailory! I ordered a 100% vegan custom bamboo suit in November 2020 and I get compliments every time I wear it. As a plus-size queer non-binary person, it was super important that I felt comfortable and supported during this process. I felt at ease the entire time and absolutely love my suit! I recently ordered a custom white shirt (a year after I ordered my suit) and the process was so simple. I put a rush on the shirt order and it arrived in plenty of time for a wedding I had to attend.
