Melting Pot

This place is great. I am not sure why the entrance is down a well, but that's fine. The inside is a little bit claustrophobic, lots of narrow twists and turns and you have to leave the restaurant to use the bathroom, which is always weird. But the food is great! I didn't get the entree, its a little pricey for what you get, but maybe its awesome, I don't know. The cheese fondue and desert fondue are legitimately very great though. Fun, tasty and decent value. Cocktails were tasty too.

To say that I enjoyed my time here would be an understatement. The food was amazing. The service was excellent. And the ambiance of the restaurant was so cozy and quiet. We showed up around 6 on Sunday and were alone on one side of the restaurant. Our waitress explained everything to us perfectly. She made sure we were comfortable with all of our options. The price is very high if you do the whole package like we did.

It was a fun different experience. The waiter was a wonderful, efficient, attentive and helpful guy. The food was not that impressive and not much flavor to the meat and seafood dishes. The cheese 🫕 fondue was probably the best thing in the menu with the apples 🍏, carrots and broccoli. The bread was ok. The salads were average and the white chocolate banana fondue was good. The front desk young woman was very rude and kind of argumentative so it was stressful to deal with her and not a very good introduction to the place. We sat in a narrow hallway where they sit the kids due to the noise level we guessed. Our waiter was very personable, efficient and kept the dishes flowing nicely and helped to make the fondue experience a fun one. Price was $110 for two people with a 5 course meal but not worth the price for the quality of the food. One time visit was enough for us.

Have always wanted to visit the Melting Pot but had never done so until this Saturday night. The subterranean entrance was an interesting start and I did like the dimly lit vibe it was giving off but it did strike me as a bit weird that there were no windows in this basement fortress like restaurant. We did the full experience with all the courses. Wow was that a lot of food! Really enjoyed the cheese course and my salad. The entree course with that different meat cooking times was confusing as our waiter told us all the details and how to do it. Everything was good and fresh, just found that someone at our table would get to talking and forget how long something was in to then have it overcooked. I guess that’s better than under especially with the chicken, duck and pork! lol The dessert course with chocolate was great although by then i had little room to eat much. I wish there had been more fruit and not so many filling brownie/cake like things to dip in the chocolate. I might have been able to sample more that way. While I may have been underwhelmed by some of the meal and the atmosphere, the service was top notch. Our server (I think his name was Johnnie) did everything to make our meal great. The rest of the staff was so attentive and fast with every thing. For me, the service was probably the highlight of the meal more than the food or the experience.

Food was organized and yummy. The staff was kind and helpful. It would be nice to have a few more sides with your mains and the bathrooms seemed a little far away and not in the best condition

Well have you heard the term "A hole in the wall" well this is a "hole in the ground" restaurant "a true find"...If you are or going to be in the Portland Oregon area this is a must visit restaurant. I will say this was my first time at a hotpot restaurant and I was very concerned about how well done my food would get with only being cooked under boiling water. To my astonishment my meats were cooked to perfection and I am a " extremely well done" type. I have to say it's beyond excellent, our server was so nice and attentive. The experience was exactly that, an experience. From the cheese, to the meats to the chocolate it's all awesome. We will definitely be back as this was by far my best experience in Portland. I ranked atmosphere as 4 due to the lack of lighting.

Been going here for years and this is the first time we were disappointed in the food and service. Our salads didn't have all the toppings they were supposed to (California Salads), they served the bread with the fresh cut and wet veggies on a really small serving board causing some of the bread to get soggy (bread use to come in a bowl), the waitress seemed pre-occupied and in hurry and we were an inconvenience to her, the table wasn't cleared between courses, it took forever to get the extra sauces (we asked for extra when we ordered), and apparently there isn't a dress code anymore because people were there in sweats and slippers (I'm talking people of Walmart) I would understand the slow service if they were busy, but it was 7pm on a Wednesday night and there wasnt a lot of people. We've been when its packed and received better service and food quality.

Food was ok. Nothing to write home about for the price. Our sever Jaime was great. A couple of pain points though that do not have anything to do with him. We had about five different people ask if we needed to go boxes all within the span of 1 minute or so it was a little obnoxious. We also were asked by a lady who didn't introduce herself (I'm assuming the manager) right before the main course if everything was tasting ok and someone at the table innocently said we haven't tasted the "main course" yet and the manager said sarcasticly "oh you haven't tasted anything yet today?" In a sort of snotty way. The atmosphere was lacking for a place that charges that much for a relatively small meal, the atmosphere should be way better. You walk in at the host stand (no decor) and there is some tacky crooked what appears to be a sheet that's pinned up behind the host stand and that represents St Jude (great organization by the way) but it just looks cheap and unprofessional. The rest of the atmosphere was pretty average / boring at best. The price compared to the quality of food/quantity isn't worth it. We had a party of 5 and spent about $400 after tip and that was almost all food (only 3 drinks) and honestly before dessert was served I was still hungry. The petite steak was too tough of a cut for that price and it was also bland as was the shrimp. There was no cohesion in the sauces for the petite steak imo. The teriyaki steak was a better cut and went well with the teriyaki sauce. I also didn't enjoy the fact that I had to use my phone (in a place with no cell service due to being underground, there is wifi) for a timer. They should invest in timers at the table or something like that to elevate the experience and make it easier for the older folks.
