I don't have a reference for fondue but it was quite delicious, fun and a very professional atmosphere! Our server was careful to make sure we understood the process of the experience and gave recommendations appropriately. I feel for the price we paid it could have been a little more food, notably in the cheese and broth portion. Left still somewhat hungry!
My sister and nephew insisted we go here before our show at Keller. I like fondue, so I agreed. I have little appreciation for this particular fondue. The cheese course was super sweet with a bitter finish. The meat course was not given proper cook times and was so over seasoned at the raw stage that it made everything taste like black licorice. I HATE BLACK LICORICE. The server was spectacular, the atmosphere was punctuated with flashing lights that were annoying and the food was underwhelming. Thoughts: season on the side, turn off the seizure inducing lights and tone down the sweetness of the kiwi lemonade. Seriously. It needs 3 shots of vodka and four lemon wedges at it's current stature.
Where do I begin?! This experience was AMAZING! My friend and I did the Best of Melting Pot 4-Course for two. We started with the Classic Alpine Cheese that came with different breads, apples, carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower. Then, we both ordered the Strawberry Pecan salad, which was to die for! for the Entrée, we ordered the court bouillon where she got the land and sea and I got the steak lovers. Lastly, we ordered the pure milk chocolate fondue which came with some fruits, cakes, brownies, and rice crispy. As for drinks, I ordered the alcoholic Strawberry Basil Lemonade and she got the alcoholic Eat A Peach. There was soooo much food and our bellies were full and happy when we left—hours later! 😂 Also, our waitress was so sweet and helpful!
Recommend to check your final bill and pay attention to it. We decided to go for the Big Night Out package for two. Price of $145. We Opted to do the feast and fusion meat selections. The Feast option has a $20 up charge for it, no problem. Total should be $165 for that portion. However, we were charged $177.50. At the end for dessert, we opted to add the cheesecake for an additional $6. However, on the bill we were charged for an $8 salted caramel cheesecake, no what we ordered. All small additions which wouldn't be a problem. Now all of these incorrect charges added a total of $14.50 to our bill. Add that to the total "expected" tip percentage that also would have changed, that's a difference in total bill of an additional $17.25 to our already +$200 check. Seems rather small. But why? Going into The Melting Pot, it's almost expected to spend well over $200 plus tip for a date night. Which was completely ok. Just seems a little shady and feels slimy. I've contacted the location and they verified my findings were correct, awaiting a call back. Apparently I am not the first person this has happened to. Which is the main concern for writing this review, how many others and how many per day are being over charged just slightly that's easy to overlook? Check your bills, check them twice. Food, at 3:00PM when they opened, first customer. Still found some fondue and dessert options not so fresh in our opinion. Cuts of meat, nothing exceptional. Especially when choosing options like filets and lobster tail that was on their "premium" option. Lobster tail was, almost a little off on taste. Service, that was pretty good. When the food came out we noticed a cut of meat missing from one of the plates, they immediately had it corrected. And continued to check in on how we were doing.
Food ans experience was amazing. Our waiter was fantastic. My only critique is the bathroom situation. Its outside of the restaurant and to be honest I wouldn't feel comfortable using it alone. The bathroom needs some attention.
Basically hot pot for Caucasian if you are eating the main course. Pros: • Service, server was friendly and got everything correct • Food, you get a lot of it Cons: • The time, 4-course meal was two hours rushing • The setting, just really dark for boiling meats and wanting to see if its fully cooked or not • Restroom, it shared by the entire building so it does get messy.
Gallilea was sooooo sweet and caring, so funny too. Made great suggestions and we had the best time, awesome energy! We will be back 🫶🏻
Wow. What an absolute disappointment all around. We frequented TMP in AZ often, but we had not been here in Portland. We went for a family member’s birthday. The food was average at best. Sausage for the cheese fondue is now an extra charge. The cheese was clumpy. There are fewer protein options. Lobster used to be included as a choice option, now it’s extra. The pork was the only meat that had flavor. I don’t like to have to add a bunch of sauce to my meat, but this was the only way to give it flavor. The duck was terrible quality. Our server was good when she engaged with our table, but we rarely saw her. Tables all around us were moving through their courses at a steady pace. We had to flag people down to help us advance and get additional drinks. The price point is not justified based on the quality of the food and service. We will not return.
Here’s a sharper, cheekier version that keeps the criticism pointed without crossing into anything potentially defamatory: In an era where great food is everywhere, The Melting Pot somehow manages to remain the Taco Bell of fondue restaurants—except with a steakhouse price tag. What was once a fun and memorable date-night destination now feels like a tired chain coasting on nostalgia. The sauces tasted suspiciously close to something poured from a jar, with an impressive commitment to sugar, water, and cornstarch. Even the salad course felt aggressively budget-conscious. The “praline” salad topping was particularly memorable—not because it was good, but because it appeared to have misplaced the actual nuts. Calling it praline felt optimistic. The atmosphere didn’t help. The dining room had all the warmth and intimacy of a hotel conference room where nobody knows each other but everyone is trapped together until dessert. To add to the confusion, we were asked three separate times whether we were celebrating a special occasion. Apparently this was merely a survey, because the occasion was never acknowledged again. If nothing is going to happen, save everyone the suspense and skip the question. The issue isn’t the cost. We can afford dinner and the occasional splurge. The issue is value. When a meal approaches the price of a high-end steakhouse, expectations naturally rise above cafeteria-quality dressings and disappearing pralines. There are too many genuinely excellent restaurants in Portland to settle for this. Save your money, skip the fondue theater, and treat yourself somewhere that remembers both the ingredients and the hospitality.
This restaurant saved me on my 60th birthday. We had made reservations at Fogo De Chao and although we arrived on time for the reservation, they told us there would be a 45 minute wait. So we left and walked a block. To our delight we found the Melting Pot. We had a lovely multiple course meal. The service was great! The food was great! They brought me a birthday desert. Thank you for making my birthday wonderful!
