The best Genesis in the state. Staff is super helpful. Gage was great in helping me understand how to reach my goals and wasnt judgmental in my progress so far. Very clean and easy to navigate.
Very nice facility with extremely friendly staff. Patrick, the manager, helped accommodate my husband and me as out of town guests. I will definitely return anytime I’m back in KC. The gym has tons of cardio equipment, some free weights and lots of weigh lifting equipment.
I’ve been trying to cancel my membership since October and had a signed cancellation. They accidentally auto drafted past my cancellation and over drafted my account. I went to get help and had a very bad experience with the kids club - which is one if not the reason I pay such high prices to be a member. I used to work in the kids club and have friends that worked there. So I am understand but also compared to daycare/kids club at other gyms I have never had such a negative experience in the past three years. I just want to actually have my cancellation and refund and not fear they are “accidentally” over drafting my bank account even tho I signed my cancellation months ago… if anyone would return my messages from the merriam location that would be great. In the middle of summer the A/C works half of the time. The thermostat reads 88 F. It's really unfortunate given the staff is great and there are a lot of machines/benches that are available in the morning. Not having A/C is a deal breaker for me.
Natalie Nickels is a personal trainer here. Insane amount of knowledge on lifting. Holds multiple records in Squat, Deadlift, and Bench press. She has recomped my body and I put on a good 10 lbs of muscle with her help. Her queuing and programming structure is intense. If you want to be brought to the next level, ask for her.
Natalie is providing me $1000s of dollars worth of personal training for $100 a month. Jalen and Kimpossible and tiny tino are three of the best front desk folks I have ever met at an establishment. Nicholas might not be able to squat as much as me when we consider range of motion, but regardless he has been an awesome dude. Caleb has been warm and welcoming from the jump. I will not be attending any other gym ever again unless I, unfortunately, were to pass away.
This place is beyond amazing. Regardless of your preferred style or training (CrossFitter, Meathead, Cardio Freak) they have what you need. The equipment is the best in the business, clean and well-maintained. The staff is outstanding (hit up Tyler when you're ready for your membership) How often do you find gyms with deadlift platforms, multiple squat racks and free weight barbells and plates?! They have a sled zone even! Lots of nice extras like both a plate load and pin load OHP machine and a swiss barbell. 3 dumbbell zones, multiple rowers, core machines galore.Those little details tell you that they take care of the clientele. Just sign up already. They have what you need. Nice views out over the Power & Light district to add the frosting.
Honestly, this is just funny to me. I received a call from this location today & I haven't lived in KC in about 5-6 months now. I was originally looking at joining this location when I moved there in January 2025, but after talking to someone I met on an online dating app & them making me uncomfortable & learning they went to this location, I decided against it for my own comfort & safety. I ended up getting a membership at Chiefs Fit on the Plaza, which was a good experience overall. Someone named Gabe or Gage called & I returned since I missed it & wanted to inquire about what I had previously said to a gym staff member when they were trying to get me to go in for a free pass, which is that a current gym member had made me uncomfortable & therefore, I would not be looking to join Genesis in P&L. He asked "is this true or false?" insinuating that maybe I would be lying about this. Really unfortunate behavior from a man, but goes to show a little bit about how they might handle situations similar to this. Glad I never joined.
I took a Pilates class here with Auset- it was absolutely wonderful! 10/10- She was very knowledgeable and had great energy as well as able to give great instruction. I will definitely be back!
Genesis Health Club is a wonderful facility! I was in town for a conference and needed a place to workout that was a bit more equipped than the hotel gym. Genesis was the answer. The staff was AMAZING- extremely helpful and accommodating. The facilities were clean and had every implement you could think of. Should my travels ever bring me back to KC, I’ll definitely be visiting Genesis again.
