I have been shopping with Rainbow for over 20 years. I always love browsing and filling bags in the bulk herbs and spices section. A customer can get lost in the diverse books, greeting cards, and gift section. The variety of healthy and local products is impressive. I love the newly remodeled configuration of the store. I like to come early and beat the crowds.
This place was so exciting, delicious, so full of great options with prices that made me do triple takes. I literally had a huge smile on my face through the whole trip and vowed that for 2026, I will be doing all of my grocery shopping at Rainbow Grocery Co-op (and TJ's). It's a commitment worth making and keeping without any hesitation. I'm excited for the New Year
Went to pick up a gift certificate for my daughter from customer service. The guy didn’t smile or say hi. Just asked for whose name was on the envelope. Not even a thank you. Something like this can leave a lasting impression. I have been going to Rainbow since its inception on 16th and Albion and have had nothing to complain about until now. Get a new customer service person because this one has forgotten what customer service means. Yuck! I love this place too.
MECCA MECCA MECCA!!!! it's great to return to a place that hasn't lost its polish in the form of old school charm. I've never lived in San Francisco but I should just do I can make this my grocery store. I went towards the end of the day yesterday and missed the throngs of people who shop there (heard there's often a full parking lot and a line out the door) and found the power bar I wanted for the plane ride home. I was so happy to see that it hasn't changed much since the last time I was here, in the 90s. That's something! It was exciting to see that the bulk section is still the same, BYO containers, and that the layout hasn't changed either. I wound up also getting a hat and had a hard time choosing a couple of single cans of probiotics and kombuchas because the selection was vast. I can't tell you how much I wish this was a store in my city: it would take 20 stores to make up this one and it probably still would be as robust. I took a couple pictures just to indicate the 1975 established old world charm. I'm so glad this gem is still around. Employee owned and operated, everyone was helpful and seemed happy at their job.
I enjoy loose teas and they have a nice collection of bulk loose teas you can get small portions of. This was my first time going and I could have spent an hour there easily just waking around all of their sections and looking at all that they offer. Clean, friendly staff, vast selection and great bulk sections (grains, flours, spices, oils, etc).

Love this grocery store! It is well stocked and has many items other stores don’t have.
I could die happy in this store. It has so much variety that could induce a migraine just looking at all the locally & organically-sourced, health & ethically-conscious products and practices they employ here. There's also some really weird products you never knew you needed, like "plastic bag hangers," because why not?
