Dr. Kourtney Sims--Functional Medicine, Integrative Women's Health & NAMS Certified Menopause Expert + Clinical Herbalist

Dr. Sims is a solid provider who I appreciated upon starting my integrative health journey in March 2024. Unfortunately, the administrative side of the practice has a lot of red tape to include: 1. A form of payment must be saved on file for all billing with no exceptions. I was dropped as a patient this week when I communicated I was not comfortable with that. 2. Care summaries are not released until the virtual check-out process is completed which require patients to leave a review on Google. 3. Getting in touch with the practice is challenging. A virtual assistant answers all calls. It is hard to speak to a live person. The practice really incentivizes you to use the portal which has its own rules on when and how to use it including, messages received when the portal reception department is closed will not be reviewed and will be automatically closed without review or response. 4. Wait times for appointments can range from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours past the appointment time which can be hard to manage with job constraints. 5. The practice will automatically schedule you for your next visit if the provider recommends a follow-up. It is on you to contact the practice if the time will not work. If the time doesn't work I found that I would have to wait about a month for another compatible time slot. So getting care can take a while. When I first started with the practice I did see some reviews that indicated these challenges but gave the practice the benefit of the doubt and an opportunity to show up differently. Unfortunately the red tape has pushed me out of the system.

I’ve only had 2 virtual visits thus far, but Dr. Sims has been compassionate, friendly, warm, and thorough…really everything you want in a provider. I have had previous experiences with functional medicine, so I came in with more understanding of the process than most. When looking at the root cause of our health as females, so many doctors just don’t get it right. I believe Dr. Sims will continue to help me get to the bottom of my multitude of symptoms until I feel like I’m operating at optimal health. Be forewarned, the initial intake documents are a LOT, but it’s very necessary to help her get the whole picture. There are 2 different portals which can be a little confusing, but once I understood what goes where, it’s smooth sailing. Looking forward to continuing my care with Dr. Sims and grateful for the expertise she brings in a sector which is very much lacking.

I have only had my initial consultation with Dr. Sims. However, all of the lead up to my initial appointment has made me feel that Dr. Sims is extremely thorough and truly cares about her patients. She provided a clear analysis of her interpretation of my records and labs and a plan moving forward. My expectations for my interactions with Dr. Sims were managed very well. I look forward to working with her. Update - I've had a second appointment with Dr. Sims now, and she spent a lot of time with me during this appointment. She was extremely supportive and motivating, which I greatly appreciate. Additional Update - I have seen Dr. Sims since the fall of 2023 and continue to be happy with her as my provider.

Dr. Sims is outstanding!!! I am so thankful that she was recommended to me. Dr. Sims is wise, compassionate, a great listener, explains things so well and is very kind. I appreciated her honesty and all of the time she spent with me. I never felt rushed and was completely at ease with her. She gave me plenty of time to tell my story and made me laugh during the process. She is everything you would want in a doctor. I am very excited to be on this journey with Dr. Sims. I will definitely be recommending her!!

After finding out I have fibroids, I did a google search for holistic doctors who have a specialty in fibroids within Houston and this is how I discovered Dr. Sims. I've only had 1 visit with Dr. Sims so far. Her pre-visit process for a new patient is quite unique and different from any doctor I've ever used. Generally, doctors have a new patient questionnaire you fill out with the typical questions but she has several forms you are required to fill in addition to a few forms to understand and know the patient (e.g. photos of your toenails, tongue). I'm so glad I found her because the previous gynecologist (conventional) I had 1 consultation visit with had a completely different process and my experience was very different. With that gynecologist: I was only given surgical options (expected), my time with her was slightly rushed, the appointment time was half the time I spent with Dr Sims, never looked at my ultrasound images, and most of what she told me about fibroids and my ultrasound report was hard for me to understand. The thing I loved about Dr Sims is she looked at my ultrasound report, the ultrasound images I sent, and the questions I had for her BEFOREHAND. She's also detailed, thorough, and mentioned things about my ultrasound report that the other gynecologist didn't. I truly wish every medical doctor were similar to Dr Sims in regards to taking questions a patient has and/or any test results/report BEFORE the appointment to make an appointment more beneficial for both parties.

I found Dr. Kourtney through a Google search as I was wanting to dive in to the functional side of wellness. I recently had my first appointment with her and I can say that she is the most personable medical professional that I have ever come across! I never felt rushed and I truly felt that she genuinely cared. I cannot wait to continue working with her and her team.

The check-in process was cumbersome, but the visit itself went well. This was my first visit, so time will tell how satisfied I am with the treatment, but I liked the doctor and felt heard and not rushed during the visit, which is important to me. Doctor seems very knowledgeable and I'm excited to continue.

My first visit with Dr. Sims was fantastic. I felt she listened to my concerns and established a plan to meet my goals. Highly recommend!

Wait time was lengthy (20 minutes after my appointment time), though I was warned several times that wait times are long. This is due to the thoroughness of the doctor and her quality of care to ensure all your questions are answered. She's extremely nice, knowledgeable and helpful. Also, she is concerned about your total well being, not just gynecologic needs.

Dr Sims is awesome! The online stuff is a bit much but my guess is it helps her keep office work minimal so she can focus on patients. Hard to get in and see her though.
