Capella University

Improper notification of Master’s Level FlexPath details and collection efforts: I worked with Mick on the application process for CVS employees with the university. I was informed that with the Flex Path he would enroll me for my first course and I would be able to select the pace of which I would take the classes. I was also informed that because of a contract with my employer I could take more than 1 course in a session for the cost of 1 course. I was not informed that I would be automatically registered in the next course after current course completion. Upon discovering that I was registered for a new course, I attempted to print out materials and set target dates for the course. I did not turn in any assignments or actively engage and eventually dropped the course because it was not the right time to take the course and it was not my intent to take the course at that time. I received no message when dropping the course or communication by any other means that if I drop the course at that time I would owe a balance. I registered for this course again thinking I was still in the window of the first session and remembering what Mick had told me about taking more than 1 course in a session and being the same price so I did not seek another letter of credit and I was receiving notifications from Capella that my billing session was still active. I had a close death in the family and decided to again disenroll from the class. I again did not engage in this course beyond setting target dates and printing a few class materials. Again no notification that if I disenroll at that time I would owe any balance. They are billing me $1000 for this and refuse to waive it. I was new to Capella and they don’t value student relationships and lost out on money for future courses.

I am currently working on my second degree with Capella and this time it is my doctorate degree. As a doctoral learner I love how Capella staff and professors never leave you by yourself and always treat you like you are not in 'it' alone. My adviser and my mentor are always attentive, , encouraging and supportive. Making a decision to become a Capella learner was a great decision but an even better one to obtain my doctorate degree.

Let me preface by saying that I graduated with my bachelor's from the top public university in my state. I had to complete my master's course online due to family and financial issues. So perhaps my experience with Capella was dull due to these factors. The classes I took through Capella were not challenging, but rather tedious. I also received zero guidance or reminders of applications for practicum/internship - something that I feel should be a standard reminder for anyone in my degree program. To make it worse, over halfway through the degree program, some of my classmates let me know that they were enrolled in a program that wasn't even accepted/valued in their state - and no one guided them on how to fix the issue or advised them of the issue to begin with. However, I will say that having access to educational materials and networking with classmates during in-person residencies were my favorite parts of the experience. But that is not the reason for my review. I completed all of my classes on 9/15/23. It is now 10/12/23 and they are unable to finalize my grades or allow me to graduate because they messed up my academic plan (yes, they admitted fault). It takes DAYS for them to respond to my emails regarding the issue, no one knows the answers to my questions or has any updates when I call, and I honestly feel like I have been scammed out of thousands of dollars. Is this not something that should have been caught from the very beginning? It shows you that theu don't care about you or your education. They care about the money. Such a waste of time. I can't believe I might not get a degree after 2.5 years of coursework (would've been less than 2 years if they communicated properly with me).

I enrolled in Capella University in 2019. I maintained a 3.69 GPA in the Doctorate of Social Work Program. I did excellent in my course work. One professor I had an A the entire time and he left and never turned in my grade so my final grade was an a F. I have a disability and had accommodations due to CML. I turned in my final paper by the cut off and the school never let the students know that the man went into the hospital and I had to go rounds with the social work department in an appeal to get my letter grade corrected. They did not want to adjust the grade and it escalated to the head of the department and let others read my paper besides my real professor. Then they tried to lower my grade again. I finally got a letter grade of “B.” Then they had the nerve to stretch our my graduation date. The mentor I had continued to give me false hope of graduation every time she said I was going to be finish I never was and they continued to run up my student loan debt. Then she dropped ball during my capstone research didn’t offer hardly any guidance and left it up to me to figure out the IRB process on my own. Her name was Dorothy Jimenez. She spent more time with her grand kids then listening to my concern. I felt like I was always bothering her when I had problems. Then she turned my research into Dr Slovac and that ended up at fhe IRB for a full investigation because I didn’t get proper guidance and after it was all said and done I appealed it. The IRB committee turned their cameras off and I kept mine own. Suspicious don’t you think? Then asked me on zoom interview did I have an attorney there with me???? Again l, suspicious! Then I get a letter from my appeal and they exited me out the program with no degree with 98% completion. No degree no second chance to correct my project NOTHiNG! Not even the dean would help nor the OBudsman. The academic success team is just a pillow to cry on. Mr. Johnathan Gertz was nice and all but he has no pull nor say to change decision. I am over 100,00 grand in student loan debt and they still have my degree. So yeah don’t waste your time and they have done it to others too. That’s why they have been sued so many times.

DO NOT choose Capella. This university is unethical and a disgrace to people who are looking for an online education with their busy lives. I turned to Capella looking for a way to take online courses and graduate with a Bachelor's degree as a full time worker and mom. I wanted to receive a degree at my own pace and easy to work with. That was NOT the case here. Amanda Collins my 'enrollment counselor' is unhelpful and sets you up for disaster. She is money hungry and purposely will not give you deadline information so she can most likely receive commission. The university 'automatically' enrolls you in a course... (funny how that works), classes begin and then you find yourself struggling to maneuver through an 'intro' course. As a first timer at online courses, I found Amanda unhelpful and the course set up was not easy. One thing Amanda Collins will never tell you is that you are responsible for 25% of Capella's UNREASONABLE tuition if YOU do not drop within 2 weeks. Other university's REASONABLE one's at that, will never even let you into a course without payment/ or a payment plan. I never received any invoice via email or at home. They make it SO easy for you to miss deadline and then end up with a large bill after not even enjoying or learning from the class. Amanda was well aware that I did not enjoy the course and didn't even bother to let me know about a penalty. After 6 months, I received an awful collection's invoice for 677 dollars approx. And now here I am trying to dispute those charges with one woman enrollment counselor, I believe her name is Emma, being rude and 'just' on the phone and telling me Amanda wasn't available. Minutes later Amanda Collins was suddenly available and immediately had a bad attitude and couldn't be bothered. I kindly asked Amanda to please transfer me to a supervisor on her end since our conversation was going in circles and she transferred me to the business department......again. She unfortunately now must realize that her communication was poor and not fair to me. The enrollment counselor's that I spoke with are extremely unprofessional and could care less about you and your side. Do yourself a favor and choose wisely before committing to any online university. Your enrollment counselor is your key communication and a window into the university. Amanda Collins enrolled me into a course BEFORE I had any idea how many courses I would need to take at Capella and pricing. It's very unfortunate that Amanda ruined my online experience for me and from reading others reviews, she has done the same to them.

I am currently a junior at Capella University and I have been most impressed with everything I have experienced. Phil Molling was my enrollment advisor and explained everything I wanted to know, was very prompt in his responses and always continued to answer questions I had long after I was enrolled. I was so worried about doing college completely online as I feared I would not have the discipline to do it. There are so many resources Capella offers that help you manage your time, write papers, answer questions, network, etc. The professors always give you their background information, lots of resources to complete your classes, when your homework is due and how to be successful. What Capella will not do is hold your hand through every step. You must get your grown-up pants on and learn how to get it done. For questions on the credits, in the guided path option it is 180 credits for your degree. This is because the classes are in quarters and 1.5 quarter credits equals one semester credit. Normal universities are 128 credit 4-year degrees. Do the math :) I have been so thankful for being able to achieve my education online and have not been disappointed by Capella.

Deciding to enroll into Capella University was both a great and frightening experience for me. I was excited to go back to school but yet frightened of not adapting to online learning. Communicating with the great professors put my fears to rest. I am currently in my masters program for Information Assurance and Security and loving every minute of it. So, my advice to anyone ready to take that next step i would highly recommend Capella University be that stepping stone.

I spoke to many women attending Capella. Apparently they have some things in common. They are pushed out financially by giving low grades and undermarking papers. A student - single working mother - finished class with an A. A week later the A was turned into a B.

The online Post Graduate Certification program in Applied Behavior Analysis is outstanding!! The staff is very friendly and the school as a whole is very concerned about every student. They are committed to making sure we receive the necessary knowledge needed to help start or further our careers. And it was definitely an honor to be chosen as an Ambassador for Capella University and I will forever represent with dignity! I encourage anyone who is seeking to start or further their education to give Capella University a try. I promise that they will give you the tools you need to succeed! #I❤CapellaUniversity

Loved the school, learn the Financial aid year vs cycle how many classes must be completed per term so you don't have issues will be returning and my son will be going for his B.S. in business human resources
