Been here several times. Johnny is a great bartender/teacher regarding the intricacies and nuances of sake' - very informative. Intimate and cozy setting. Prices are very reasonable and sake' is an order of magnitude better than what I've had in sushi bars. Highly recommend.
We came in on a Saturday afternoon and tried both samplers. For a great price we got to try some unique and delicious sake and our service was excellent!
I am not the most savvy at Sake but all the recommendations Johnnie makes the best recommendations….definitely would recommend….the old building is really cool too
One of our favorite bars in Seattle, and by far the best place for saké. They have an excellent selection of bottles, as well. Johnnie is friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Their new space on Cherry Street is a great date spot: ample seating, beautiful lighting, and usually quiet.
The owner is knowledgable and inviting. The front area is intimate with a small group and spartan - the focus is really on the taking in the sake and enjoying yourself. You can sample different sake, which is a great way to ease yourself into sake for a beginner or broaden your palate for a sake connoisseur. For those who know what they like: buy a bottle, have a cup, and take the rest home. Food is NOT for sale at Sake Nomi, but outside food is allowed - my friends and I ordered from Senor Carbon (basically across the street), which was delicious.
WOW this place is awesome. The owner had a fantastic variety and knowledge of sake for the area, and the flights were top tier. I tried 6 bottles and bought two of the best ones and had a great time in a nice, subdued space. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to try interesting sake.
Amazing Sake! Very cute bottle shot/tasting bar
A recent month-long trip to Japan whetted our appetite for sake. We parked at the Tukwila light rail station and took Sound Transit into Seattle. We chose one each of the two tasting flights (three pours with each one), then got an additional pour of our favorite from the initial tasting. Both my wife and I prefer the drier styles normally, but were happy to try one that was slightly effervescent and with hints of green apple. The server (owner?) was great at further educating us about sake styles, and helped us to select a couple bottles to bring home with us. Sake Nomi has been in business for 17 years. Note that no food is served, it is a sake bar/shop exclusively.
The gentleman operating the place when I was there knew his stuff! My friend and I went in on recommendation from a proprietor local to him (my friend lives in California) and I'm glad he made the recommendation. The menu is a rotating menu which I believe is changed weekly (don't quote me on that!) with the option for individual pours or flights of 3 curated sakes. The descriptions were accurate to my inexperienced palate. When I described what I was looking for, and showed some pictures of varieties I enjoyed, the gentleman recommended a few varieties, and I have to say... He's good at his job! I thoroughly enjoyed the sake he poured me, and less so the sake my friend opted for (though he was equally pleased with his selection, so the guy knocked it out of the park two for two). If you're in the area: I highly recommend trying it out.
Unbeatable selection of top shelf sake. Very unusual to find a place like this in any city. Johnnie knows his stuff and is happy to give as much information about sake and Japanese culture as you're interested in hearing. A Japanese diplomat stopped in one night and mentioned it feels like japan. If I'm ever in Seattle - Sake Nomi is 100% on the must revisit list.
