A couple of us ate at the 'Parks on tap at Waterworks'. The ambiance and location were awesome, hence the 2 stars. I'm not a picky eater, at all, but the food was ridiculously expensive (the night before prices were much lower but they sneakily removed prices from the menu and jacked them up), small portions, and most of it tasted terrible. We're hoping the chicken was cooked properly since after eating some of it, we noticed it was pink and we found blood around the bones. The cornbread was stale and the potato salad had no flavor. The Cole slaw was the only thing worth eating.
Just returned home from Fernhill Park for the first time thanks to Parks on Tap. A wonderful evening under the moonlight surrounded by pines and maples over 100 years old. A family reunion in one corner of the park, kids and young people playing tennis and basketball in another, and Parks on Tap in a third corner. A great night of Philly love in one of our numerous green spaces.
They refused service to be because "im too dark of a color for beer". Absolutely disgusting service, I cannot believe this company tolerates racism.
I wish it were more inclusive and not assume everyone has a smartphone to even look at the menu. Having at least one paper copy at the counter or a sign wouldn't kill the environment. Food was ok, as per beer garden standards: overpriced and unhealthy for the most part. However you don't have to order food. We want to support the effort but always end up needing a real dinner at home. Great concept, could just use improvements.
We visited Parks on Tap at the Waterworks the evening of Saturday, Nov. 7. The COVID protocols were not being followed described on their website were not being followed. No hand sanitizer or wipes anywhere, even near the restrooms. The park was crowded, and there was no visible effort to manage capacity. Mask wearing varied and we didn't see any staff members walking around to enforce this requirement. We felt very unsafe. I reported all of this to Parks on Tap via email and received no response. Shameful.
I had a terrible experience that makes me not want to come back. It was my birthday and I was trying to celebrate it with a group of 10 friends at Clark Park parks on tap. I was especially looking forward to celebrating with my younger brother who turned 21 this past September. The bouncer was super rude and turned away my brother’s REAL ID verified drivers license because “it looks fake to me” He said a picture of his passport would work as a way to verify his age, which why a real ID wouldn’t work, but a photo of a passport would is beyond me. (My brother who was turned away works at fine wine and knows to never accept a photo of an ID when purchasing alcohol is concerned). Sounds like I’m not the only one who has had similar complaints. They either need an ID scanner or bouncers who are knowledgeable about what IDs look like since the vertical PA juniors license (that clearly states until when the person is under 21) threw him through a loop. All ten of us took our business elsewhere to celebrate my birthday and will not be coming back, which sucks because parks on tap attempts to support a good cause but hires rude and uninformed staff.
We went to the Parks on a tap at the water works tonight and everything started off great. We got hungry after a bit and decided to get some food and it was really disappointing. All we ordered was a pulled pork sandwich ($10) and a half chicken platter ($15). But they don’t display the prices and we were quite surprised at how expensive it was. We got the food and the sandwich was literally just the sandwich. The food hardly had any flavor and the cornbread was very dry. Parts of the chicken were even pink and looked like it may still have some blood, so we couldn’t even eat some of it. It’s fun to go to play some games or have a drink, but I would not recommend buying the food.
Overpriced beer and (aside from the decent cornbread) poorly prepared overpriced food? Hey, sign me up! It's a nice idea. It needs tweaking. More beer selections better priced, and just a bit more food selections better cooked, and they'll have something nice that I would happily rate higher.
I have been many times to the Clark Park pop-up. It has a great atmosphere and is fun. Beer is more than market prices... It's quite the deterrent. If all proceeds went to charity, perhaps that'd be okay, but Parks on Tap is very evasive about how much actually goes to Fairmount Park Conservancy and Parks & Rec.
Amazing how the PPD come tell us we have to start leaving at 8:45pm over the last few weeks when nothing is even happening there but let it stay open late when the city making money while they’re out there. All about the money.
