I would have enjoyed sticking around to enjoy the coffee and pastry I ordered “for here” but there was very limited seating. Many parties of one were camped out at four tops working on computers instead of enjoy the coffee and moving on. There was very limited shade cover for the outdoor seating. I will be ordering “to go” next time.
Came late in the day, just for coffee. Service was great, the vibe was positive and the people were genuinely nice. This is the model for a great neighborhood coffee shop. It's here for the people. I highly recommend, they doing great things for the less fortunate and making a positive impact on their customers. You should go

Great spot, one of the best chai lattes in town, imho. Owners and staff are also caring, thoughtful community citizens, helping create food security for marginalized people suffering under authoritarian policies.
Heretic is the best! We live just east of the Reed neighborhood and are always looking for a good, local (non-chain) coffee place and Heretic fits the bill. Bonus? Their care for those less fortunate and for feeding the hungry. LOVE that and makes us feel good about spending our coffee money at Heretic.
An amazing coffee shop run by amazing people. Not only is their coffee delicious (with rad syrups like miso carmel and maple bourbon that they make themselves), but they understand how much generosity can help those who are struggling, myself included, feel a small slice of normalcy. Heretic is a model of a business doing great things, standing up for ideals, and fostering community.
Good drinks served by friendly staff in a cute little shop. I'd love to see them expand their menu a little further (I'm a big fan of cocoa!) but their friendly staff and social conscience makes them well worth supporting.
This place is a must try spot in the Reed area. What they do here not only moves mountain it changes them. 5 Stars
Went to Heretic on our visit to Portland over the holidays. Adorable spot, great coffee, excellent baristas. Overall just lovely people. Oh, and did I mention that they’re incredibly supportive of their community?
I was in Portland for a day and decided to support this business I had heard about. I waited my turn behind two people who were given food and treated with dignity and kindness. This made me glad I'd come in. My cappuccino and breakfast burrito were delicious. The green sauce with the burrito is divine!
