Awesome atmosphere for a specialty meat shop. My dude is smoking meats and making fancy European style pates to a soundtrack of old-school death metal and crossover thrash. I had a pate sandwich and it was excellentand the spicy pickles on the side were perfectly sour and spicy. 10/10, you should go here and talk meats and metal.
My wife and I stopped in for the first time a couple of days ago. What an incredible find! We are so happy to have this shop in the neighborhood. When you walk in the smell is incredible. They serve prepared stuff--sandwiches, soup, sampler boards, etc.--and also a really good selection of fresh sausages, salumi, terrines, pate, and more. It sounds like the selection rotates and there is new stuff being added all of the time. There is also a handful of curated other grocery items for sale. There are a few seats if you wanted to dine in. We got a sandwich and soup, and a variety of other stuff. Everything was incredibly delicious. When we got home and started eating, I can't tell you how disappointed I was to have only half of a sandwich to myself. It was so good, I almost walked right back for another. The other items we ate later were also really nice. I appreciate that many of the items they make are delicate and subtle, not overly spiced. It actually makes what is often very heavy food feel light and fresh. The owners are really nice and incredibly devoted. Even just on this brief stop we learned a lot about the products and the processes for making them. In a nutshell, we liked everything about this place on the first visit, and are looking forward to having it in our regular rotation!
Pat and his team do an excellent job of sourcing quality and interesting meats from local farmers and have an incredible selection of charcuterie! Be sure to stick around for a bite and/or glass of wine!
Love Heavy Metal, all the meats, sandwiches, and punk rock wine. Pat and Melissa are so welcoming and all the staff are wonderful. 10s across the board! Happy to live so close by!
What a treasure Heavy Metal Sausage Co is in Philly. They make traditional full flavor meats and bread. Their speciality Zungenblutwurst (pork blood, tongue, skin sausage) is an oasis in the bland desert of modern American cuisine. Their bread is made from daily fresh hand ground wheat. Ramp sausage and many options made from duck and goose parts has me sold on this place. Hope many more chefs and restaurants follow this revolt against Sugar/Salt/Butter and get back to flavor.
Loved it! Interesting and high-quality meat board. Clockwise from bottom left: a buttery, spreadable chicken liver paté with a hint of cognac (?); a firm and gelatinous head cheese; a rustic country paté; a surprisingly mild blood and tongue baloney; and an incredible duck ham that came across as a slightly gamier cousin of pork ham. The accoutrements were no afterthought: pickles, horseradish, pepper relish, cherry preserves, and bread made using house-milled flour with a nutty aroma, all made in-house. I asked if I could buy a smaller portion and they accommodated. Worth a 20-minute detour if you’re in the area. I look forward to dining here again.
Lovely butcher shop with a super friendly and knowledgeable staff. The beef coppa steaks are incredible. I definitely will be back for a sandwich and would love to try the trattoria one day. The piccante sausage melts in your mouth and is full of flavor.
We had a great experience at Heavy Metal Sausage. The cheese plate and pulled pork entrees were fabulous. The owner was a really friendly guy. He recommended two types of sausages that were seasonal that were wonderful on the grill!
Pat and Mel make amazing food and wine! Their lunches and especially the trattoria dinners are so worth it. Probably one of the best dinners I’ve had in my life. If you haven’t gone to one of their dinners yet, you should make a reservation now!
Delicious sandwiches!! They use homemade batard bread and meat is great and fresh. Very nice staff.
