Finding vegan food at Pike Place Market can be difficult. Luckily, El Borracho has dedicated vegan options to help us get our grub on. Although a small space, El Borracho feels cozy. The atmosphere is inviting, so much so that people even brought their kids. Let me say that this restaurant has some of the best vegan Nachos you will find almost anywhere. A generous helping of guacamole (included), beans, and sour cream, you'll never have a bite of tortilla that lacks the goods. These Nachos come "fully loaded". The jalapeño peppers give a nice kick that rounds everything out. If you're in Pike Place Market and craving some nachos, El Borracho is your place!
Great dive bar feel, legitimately nice staff, and pretty good margaritas. But, that's about all that's good that can be said about the place. The food was simply not good. Across two different dishes the Seitan tasted undercooked and oversauced, and just plain unappetizing. The tofu had an off texture that made it unpleasant in a taco and was paired in a runny and discordant sauce, with pineapple that did not complement it at all. Finally, the queso, while the most edible of the dishes offered, had a super runny consistency and tasted like a deflavored salsa. The strongest flavor inside it was potato, which isn't great on tortilla chips. It wasn't the food alone as an issue but also the presentation of said food, the chips coming out in an oily paper bag and the tacos and burrito coming out in takeaway containers. This would fit a dive bar aesthetic except the prices do not match the vibe, and food at most dive bars is far superior. Finally, a minor annoyance: the restaurant has tried to move to a completely online menu based off of QR codes at the table, but does not have wifi for customers to use. I understand the convenience for restaurants of a virtual menu, but if you are going to insist on this the least you can do is give your customers the data to access their menus. There is better vegan food in the area. Avoid this place.
Check my YouTube channel aboricualifeinusa and Instagram. The ordering is from a qrcode.you check the menu u order and they bring the food to you. Tacos were decent but on the small side. Price wise for the area was affordable . I was only in the area for the day so I didn't think I'll miss it. Give it a try .
Chips with guacamole and spicy salsa to start, followed by two vegan burritos with black beans and red rice! Fast and friendly service and great tasting food. Would loved to have tried other options on the menu but we were full to the brim! 👍
Do yourself a favor, forgo the tacos and just get the nachos. The tacos were quite disappointing. Lack of flavor and the weirdest jackfruit ever. Was it even jackfruit? However oddly enough the nachos were really good. I'd go back for nachos and maybe be daring to try a burrito in hopes it's good. However I'm guessing similar to the tacos. I would say to the owners that spices are ok to use oh and salt is ok too.
Great place for more authentic mexican food! Their tacos are amazing, and they have great options for vegans AND vegetarians! Looking for a cheap drink? Go for a double El-Cheapo (made with fresh lime juice). This place fills up quick, so expect to wait outside if they are full - or grab a table on the patio (great people watching)! Last thing to note is the entry area is the bar (21+), but the side/back enterance leads you into an all ages dining area.
TL;DR - Food good, ordering process frustrating. Food was tasty, the vegan substitute proteins definitely do the job! However, the QR code menu was finicky and took multiple re-orders before the purchase went through. Having this as the *only* way to order food with a card is kind of rough. Can't imagine what it would be like for an older or less tech-savvy visitor. Also worth mentioning - $10 for a single taco is WILD, especially when burritos or nachos (easily 4-5 times as much food) are around $20. This definitely won't be a repeat spot for us.
Good spot for vegan Mexican food. I've been here twice and unfortunately both times they've been out of the shrymp. The nachos were amazing, but the tacos were a bit cold. Service also took a while, but the staff was friendly.
The food was super yummy and filling. The horchata was to DIE FOR. I see a lot of negativity (from the boomers…) about the order online system, but it’s really convenient. Gives you time to look around and go back and forth a million times without pestering the wait staff 😂 I will say the system is a little funky, but it’s technology. Absolutely worth a visit.
Friendly place with fresh food and nice sized portions. I had the chipotle potato taco, shrymp taco and the jalapeño pineapple margarita. I ate the food so quickly that I forgot to take pics. I would def recommend this place for vegans and non vegans
