We are visiting from out of town. The man working was disrespectful for absolutely no reason as soon as we walked in the door. He asked us to leave within a few minutes of walking in even though every single one of us showed him a valid ID. Absolutely ridiculous. Save yourself the trip and go somewhere else! I guess he's selective based on your appearance or something? I've never been treated so poorly at a business before, not sure what the deal is. Maybe have better customer service if you actually want to have customers, especially ones who return? It seems a lot of people who have come here have had this same experience. Hopefully this guy gets fired before he makes the business close down, because that is NOT how you treat customers.
Unfortunately, this business is confused between doing business with customers and policing them. It has a mask policy that it puts above customer service, or even doing business. Walked into the place just after it opened on Saturday. Did not have a mask, but was willing to cover my face with my shirt. Was harshly commanded by staff to “leave now!” When I said that I’d be sure to leave a good review, the clerk put it on me, telling me that I was “breaking the law” by standing in the shop without a mask (which is untrue — no such law has been passed for either businesses or individuals). STILL, I offered to do a transaction by telling her what I wanted and having her bring it outside the front door to me. But still she persisted to harshly turn me away. (They have an online purchasing system, but I told her I needed the product in hand — I was purchasing gourmet beer as a birthday present). She was adamant to refuse to do business with me! These are definitely strange times when shops are turning away business in favor of enforcing what is in effect segregation — in this case people who have masks versus those who do not. Even stranger was the fact that when I purchased over $70 worth of beer from BeerLOVE a few days earlier (the night Ida hit town), they offered masks at the door if you didn’t have one! Today, however, they offered no masks, only an uncompromising “stay away!” attitude for those of us without a mask. Very confusing. Apparently, BeerLOVE has no clear operating policy, has not trained staff on the difference between law and policy (mask mandates apply only to the business itself, not the customer, which is why businesses offer masks to potential customers), has failed to adequately train staff on courteous customer service skills, and cares more about rigid policy enforcement than wanting to work on site with potential customers of any class. It’s a shame because I was really pleased with their product, which is why I returned to repeat business. I’m also in favor of supporting local shops. But if you want to act in ways even the conglomerates are not, then you’ve lost a customer.
This is my favorite hidden gem in all of Philly. Jon and Kristen have created a space with a chill vibe where customers feel welcomed in like they're old friends. Kristen knows how to pair wine with any food you desire (perfect for every day, special dinner parties, and holidays!). Jon can pick you a fantastic six-pack for your evening. 10/10 highly recommend!!
Same story as everyone else, we were rejected because we showed them our French IDs and they didn’t like them and claimed we needed to show passports or American IDs. The place needs to get a grip, these IDs are good for everyone else in the country except for them. No wonder the place was empty, they’re finding an excuse to reject anyone who wants to come in.
Terrible experience. Was refused to enter the shop because they didn’t accept my Portuguese ID (which is valid throughout the world). I wonder why the place was absolutely empty…
I have never done a review before but this place deserves one. If I could give this place no stars I would. This place should be shut down. My friend and I got hounded the moment we walked in the door for our IDs (meanwhile we’re in our 30s) saying it’s PA state law. I’ve been to bars/restaurants and liquor stores all over PA and never once was I treated like that for just standing in the place. Then they asked us for vaccination cards once we gave our order after we were already sitting at the bar looking at a drink menu for 5 minutes. Meanwhile all of those restrictions were dropped months prior. Why not just ask that when you were hounding us about the IDs or maybe put that on a sign outside of your business so we know not to support you? Those workers/owners are so demeaning and arrogant and on some sort of power trip. Do not go here.
Been going to Beer Love since it opened. Fantastic selection, great prices, and top-notch service. There's no better spot for beer in Philly. Beer Love has a relaxed, comfortable vibe and a great selection on tap. Stop in for a cold sixer and stay for a few pints!
10/10 spot for the BEST niche wines and beer in the city especially south street. the customer service experience feels like im with family members, i couldnt ask for a better place to enjoy my leisure time. woman owned and ran!!! doesnt get better than beer love!
Owner is perhaps the rudest person I’ve ever met. Walked in with a group of friends to buy wine for dinner, my wallet was recently stolen so when I was carded I apologized for not having it and my friends (who all had valid IDs) attempted to buy the wine, I completely understood he couldn’t sell to me. My friends and I are 33 years old, i had a picture of my passport to ensure I wasn’t underage but he literally kicked the entire group out. He wouldn’t let anyone purchase anything even when I offered to leave the store. I’ve never experienced this in my life, even when I was 19 and turned away with a fake ID I was treated with more respect let alone 33 offering to show a picture of my passport to simply ensure alcohol being purchased by another person wasn’t being illegally shared. I know this guy doesn’t care about a bad review because you can read other peoples exact experience regarding ID, which I get. He can simply say he cares about his businesses legality, fine, completely understandable. But other peoples comments of just how miserable and rude this guy is and how he treat’s customers is shocking. Right before walking in the store a friend that has shopped there before literally said “the guy that works here is miserable”, and I responded that everyone’s entitled to a bad day. But yeah I get it, get someone kinder to talk to customers that keep your bussiness afloat.
Sharing the experience of several other reviewers. One of the employees is extremely rude and power trips over checking IDs. One time, my girlfriend and I ordered online while we were on a walk and didn't have our wallets. The employee refused to give us the order, because we didn't have ID. OK, fair enough, we went home and I got my wallet. A fifteen minute walk later, the clerk refused us again after seeing my ID (I'm 31) because my girlfriend (32) didn't bring *her* wallet. I was previously a regular customer. I have never gone back.
