I switched here after starting with WSET. Took one class and immediately knew I’d made the right call. More serious, more engaging, less performative
My dad and I were here for the luxury tequila class. I knew nothing about tequila before the class and felt like I got a great introduction. Even my dad who knows a lot about tequila enjoyed his time and learned more. The tequilas we tasted were great, and the sangrita Keith made was amazing! We both left agreeing we'd like to return for a wine class.
This is hands down the best place to learn about wine. Keith has developed a rigorous curriculum that underscores the complexity of the wine world whilst making it digestible to those new to it. The Wine School space itself is beautiful, and you have the opportunity to try some fantastic wines throughout the various courses. Really a fantastic experience.
My experience at this school was amazing, and exceeded all of my expectations. Kudos! After deciding to pursue a long time personal goal of earning my official Sommelier credentials, I began researching schools, and found that the number one rated wine school in the USA 🇺🇸 according to Somm was located in the Rittenhouse Square area, in Philadelphia. Since I live in southern Delaware near Rehoboth Beach, I took my level one course and exam online through The Wine School Of Philadelphia, which is affiliated with, and credentialed by The National Wine School in California. This was not an easy course or exam, but it served to further ignite my passion for wine and wine studies. My next step was to enroll in the in person level two and three Sommelier certification courses at The Wine School Of Philadelphia. What an adventure that was! I did the summer accelerated program, due to the fact that I didn't have enough time to spare commuting to Philadelphia longer term. Here's the deal folks...If you're on the fence about the School, don't be. My experience there was both eye opening, and life changing. It was not easy, and at times, I wasn't sure if I was going to pass all of the exams. Be prepared to study hard, and have your mind blown. My advice is to arrive in a humble state of mind, and take advantage of an incredible learning and personal growth opportunity. I passed my level three exams, and intend to return to the school and work towards my level four credentials. These guys are serious about wine, and they will rock your world. Just be ready to give it 100 💯 percent, and you will receive the same from them.
I took the Tequila class last week, and it was amazing. In less than two hours, we tasted some of the best Tequilas I have ever had and showed us how to distill Tequila during class (!!!!). He was funny but really smart and showed a level of compassion I don't usually see in a teacher. He also showed us the coolest cocktail, one which I am going to serve with tequila every time. It's not really a cocktail, but more of a chaser. Sangrita. It was perfect. Another really great portion of the class was his recommendations. He didn't give us brands, but how to spot the really good small producers. It was a really helpful class and one which I won't soon forget.
Can a winemaker be woke? The class I took was great. It was called the Exotic Wine Class. The wines were crazy and good. If you ever get a chance, try a Plavac Mali from Croatia. I had no idea what I was missing. Also who knew Crete wines were a thing? The best part of the class was how the instructor tied all the wines together in this really awesome tapestry of interconnected histories and dna and a whole lot other mind-bogling revelations. “Everything is exotic if we haven’t experienced it yet.” Is how he opened up the class. If you come to a class, I strongly recommend getting there a few minutes early. The best seats are in the front of the classroom, if you really want an education. If you are more of the gimme-wine kinda person, then you may want to sit in the back. My instructor’s name was Keith, and he’s incredible. He used to be a winemaker, and his depth of knowledge is fierce. I’ve read about Alana in some reviews, and I hope to be able to sit in her class, too.
I strongly recommend the Wine School of Philadelphia to anyone with any degree of wine interest/knowledge. Few things in this life are truly fun and educational at the same time-but tastings at the Wine School of Philadelphia are! After taking a handful of classes, I was compelled to join the Wine School as a member. I eagerly look forward to members-only events and many more classes and tastings.
Outstanding learning opportunity for someone interested in wine. I feel very fortunate it's here in Philly, barely a mile from where I live. The instructors are world class, Keith also happens to be an exceptional wine maker. I highly recommend taking the opportunity to explore their offerings.
I used to be in Philadelphia a lot, before the pandemic. I don't get there as much these days. I wouldn't mind that too much. (Sorry to be a hater, but I am not a fan of Philly.) Except for this place. I love the Wine School in Philly. It's the first wine school I ever went to, and I keep going to other ones (DC, NY, LA) and it's by far the best. The folks at SOMM really got this one right. The teachers are awesome, and the classes are fun. I learn so much and had such a blast. I ended up taking an online program with them, which was really good, too. If you live in Philly, you really owe it to yourself to go.
If Amazon ends up in Philly, all those west coast nerds are going to feel right at home here. I mean that in the best way possible. I like smart and passionate, but snobs put me off my wine. When I first attended a class, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Keith and company changed my life. I really mean that. I’m now the wine guy among my circle. Even my boss now defers to my judgment when we are on business trips. My two favorite teachers are Keith and Alana. Alana knows everything. All around brilliant teacher. Keith is the founder of the school and he still teaches classes. One work of caution: don’t come expecting to chat or gossip in your group. The other students (myself included) not be pleased. We come for the experience, not to hear about your lame life!
