I run a web hosting business and my wife works from home for a major corporation. Power failures is a major problem. I am entertaining alternative sources. If I could charge for the failures, I would.

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. Our experience with Atlantic City Electric during a severe storm and power outage in Mantua was completely unacceptable. Following the storm, the road around our home was closed on both sides of our driveway. My fiancée was trying to get home from work and was stopped from accessing our driveway by a lineman working at the scene. Whether he was an Atlantic City Electric employee or a subcontractor, I cannot confirm—but he was representing their operation at the time. What made the situation even more frustrating was that there was no active line work taking place at the time. Two workers were standing outside their trucks, carrying on a conversation next to the cones blocking access. My fiancée attempted to speak with them and explain that she lived at the residence they were preventing her from accessing. Instead of calmly explaining the situation, determining whether she could safely enter, or even allowing her to finish speaking, one of the workers became dismissive and confrontational and began cursing at her. I ultimately had to come outside and intervene just so we could determine how she was supposed to safely access her own home. There is absolutely no excuse for speaking to a resident that way—especially someone simply trying to get home from work during an already stressful emergency. If access genuinely could not be permitted for safety reasons, that could have been communicated professionally in 30 seconds. Instead, she was treated with hostility. Unfortunately, this incident only adds to my frustration with Atlantic City Electric. Before moving to Mantua, I had PSE&G and was paying approximately $70 per month while living in a larger space. Since moving here, I have received electric bills approaching $600, including roughly $200 in delivery charges alone. I understand rates, usage, and utility territories differ, but a difference of this magnitude deserves scrutiny and a clear explanation. Residents should not have to feel trapped by a utility provider simply because there is no practical alternative. When customers are facing substantial bills, extended outages, and then disrespect from personnel working in their neighborhoods, they have every right to demand accountability. Atlantic City Electric should provide greater transparency regarding its rates and delivery charges and ensure that everyone representing the company—including subcontractors—is held to basic standards of professionalism when dealing with the public. After this experience, I believe residents in Mantua and surrounding communities should start documenting their experiences. If others are experiencing similar issues with excessive bills, delivery charges, outage response, or treatment by personnel, then a petition and formal complaints to the appropriate regulatory authorities may be warranted. One frustrated customer can be dismissed. A documented pattern involving an entire community is much harder to ignore. Mantua residents deserve better.
