I would strongly recommend that small business owners do not work with The Hartford. From the start of my policy, my business and payroll classification codes were incorrect—an error that directly impacts premium calculations. This issue went uncorrected for the full duration of the policy, ultimately costing my business thousands of dollars. When I identified the discrepancy (while obtaining quotes for a second location), I raised it directly. The concern was dismissed, and I was told the classification was correct. It was only after escalating the issue myself—first internally, and then to external regulatory organizations including WCRIBMA and NCCI—that it was confirmed the classification was, in fact, incorrect. Policy classification is a fundamental component of workers’ compensation insurance. For an error of this magnitude to persist—and to be dismissed when raised—reflects a serious failure in oversight and accountability. Additionally, when sourcing quotes for a second location, I received comparable coverage at significantly lower cost elsewhere, which further called into question how this policy was originally structured. Given the financial impact, the lack of accountability, and the dismissal of a valid concern, this experience felt less like an isolated oversight and more like predatory behavior toward a small business owner relying on the carrier’s expertise. Stay far away from this company.

I get benefits through my employer and I wish so much that they would go with another company. I’m on short term disability and my claim adjuster is totally incompetent- first she falsely denied my claim for which I had to appeal completely, which was overturned but approved for the incorrect dates. They will do everything in their power to falsely and erroneously deny your claim. I will be calling my appeals rep Tuesday to file an official complaint against my adjuster Hannah.

Denied my father’s life insurance policy after 35 years at his defense contracting company. He was a 20 year veteran of the navy as well. Total lack of respect for the people who serve this country. I’m disgusted EDIT: you can’t just copy paste the same empty “sorry” message in response to everyone that leaves a review on here. Shame on you.

AVOID. Following recommendation, i used The Hartford to insure a biotech startup. There was an incident, and during 'discovery,' it became very evident they didn't know the difference between a virus, bacteria, bacteriophage, protein, etc.. They are an insurance company who don't understand what they are insuring, so they will always give you idiotic responses and try to delay genuinely assessing the case. How can they assess a case if they don't understand the basics of what they are insuring? it's impossible, and they will.always plead ignorance. There are also no processes for them to escalate cases or assign a new case examiner. AVOID AT ALL COSTS, there is a reason they have such bad ratings

THIS IS THE WORSE INSURANCE COMPANY TO DO BUSINESS WITH. when i see this insurance company on my clients insurance verification forms i literally want to run myself over with their new vehicle. 6 days to get back rtas that are legally demanded within a two hour period, horrible uneducated customer service that will waste your time and get you no where. i will forever discourage personal friends and clients from doing business here until this company gets their act together absolutely ridiculous in this day and age to be so careless and uneducated

This insurance company is utter trash. It is clear they make access to any information regarding claims or customer information as difficult to access as possible. This is clearly a tactic to hoard money and deny as many claims as possible through bureaucracy. The world would be a better place if companies like The Hartford did not exist.

Avoid at all costs! Horrible company with horrible people. Take months to send you your claims and then ask for it back. Impossible to speak with your adjustor directly. This company symbolizes everything that is wrong with this country.

I’m in the process of trying to submit my 4th claim with the hartford, and each claim has felt like trying to pull blood from stone. Their website is terrible, their processes are also terrible, their staff are incompetent, and I’m going to quit my job rather than continue to attempt to submit it, a Sisyphean task. Imagine a medical leave process that is so difficult that your employee would rather quit than get benefits? I’d be ashamed.
