PCC Community Markets - Central District

Huge fan of PCC here and supporting community markets in general. This store however is clearly understaffed. Every single time I'm there, the shopping experience is phenomenal, but the checkout experience is almost in sufferable. Lines stretching from front of store to the back with no staff direction. Waited 18 minutes yesterday just to pay for a single item. 18 minutes for self checkout! Needless to say I still return. But do better guys.

This is a $25 lasagna. It has zero instructions or cooking times on the packaging. This grocery store is already absurdly overpriced but to be this level of lazy is wild.

I bought a chicken pesto sandwich a week ago after having a diabetic crash and the sandwich was a rock hard and inedible. It was also ice cold after being heated in the panini press. I called the manager and let her know what happened.She promised me not only to return my money but to also give me fifteen dollars in compensation. When I came today to pick up my gift card , I was told that nothing existed and they were not going to resolve the issue that they felt there was no cause for a refund. The manager I spoke with, Brenton, also packed my groceries. For some reason , he decided to put my hot deli food and my fruit on the bottom of the bag underneath heavy items and they are completely destroyed. I don't know if he was distracted or if this was deliberate. After this, it definitely feels deliberate. I've been shopping at pcc since I moved here in 1990. In the last five years , customer service has completely devolved and become non existent.

Jess is so wonderful. Every time I go inside they treat me nicely and are very patient yet efficient. Today as I was at self checkout about to transfer money to my checking account to finish my purchase I realized I didn’t want a few items one because I didn’t feel like transferring money simply for $6 and two it was too hot for me to lug these up the steep hill to get to my office. Jess was patient in taking the items off as I made the decision to take them both back as well as sharing PCC recommendations. Jess is one of the few employees that has been kind and patient EVERY SINGLE TIME I interact with them. Even if I’m jumbled or scattered because I’m overwhelmed they maintain the professionalism and kind nature that you hope to have in a grocery store worker. They are great.

I really like this location overall! The produce is usually fresh and of good quality and they tend to be well stocked on most items. The store is clean and the employees are usually friendly and helpful. It’s a bit smaller than some of the other stores but it still has a solid selection of products. My biggest gripe is the parking lot. The spaces between cars are super tight so if you have anything larger than a sedan, it can be a bit of a struggle to park. It’s not a dealbreaker for me, but it definitely takes away from the experience. Still, overall a great location—just wish the parking situation was a little more spacious!

This is just…….bizarre. I’m an older woman with short hair. It’s short, actually, because after chemo it never came back as full. So I have one of those boring, old lady short haircuts. Anyway, my short hair is all I can think of that possibly triggered this man. I was checking out, chitchatting with the cashier and bagger. The gentleman bagging was retirement age. I mentioned I was in Seattle for a couple of months and I really thought the fall here was gorgeous. One of them asked me where I was staying. I said west Seattle near Alki Beach and he said, “Really? You look like you live on Capitol Hill. You must feel safe around Capitol Hill, they go for all that alternative stuff.” What? I was wearing a forest green gap sweater , a black rain jacket, and Athleta dark blue pants. And olukai shoes. The most absolutely bland middle class outfit you can possibly imagine. My whole entire life, I have never felt *unsafe* because of the way I look. Until that man opened up his mouth. What the ever loving hell? I am the most boring, Talbots-wearing, pbs-viewing divorced middle aged woman you will ever meet. Ask the cashier, a young gentleman. He was very nice. It was so *strange.* It was unsettling. Makes me want to start dressing like a witch or something, if I’m going to be targeted when I have always dressed to disappear. Edit: I know I sound out of touch; I think this just shocked me because I was in Seattle of all places. Plus, I still don’t know what I “look like” lol. It was just something I never thought about. I just had short hair now. I think it’s good, because it reminds me I have to be a more active proponent of respect for all people. I just didn’t know I personally had reason to be afraid if I was in a conservative area. Now I know. And I’m glad I’m counted in the “out” group!

Update: grateful for the store response directly below. I am a fan of PCC and the connection to regional produce and products. I think of the cashier layout opens up to be less of a bottle neck it'll feel safer at this particular store. This location feels like a mini Mart with a maze like floor plan. The checkout funnel is not Covid friendly as you have to leapfrog around others to get to any open cashier's at the end.

Started out great despite the small footprint. Produce is now unreliable with moldy cantaloupe and pineapple. Bought a bag of discounted potato chips only to discover they smelled like rancid oil and were near expiration. It's clear there's less oversight and less concern about quality. I hope that gets fixed before customers startavoiding the place.

New to the neighborhood and I saw there was a PCC nearby. I stopped in and loved the quality of the food and cleanliness of the store. The staff was also amazing. Shoutout to Tiarra with her friendly attitude and funny stories as she rang me up. Will be back soon

Why are you closing one hour early, my cat needed food, I'll make sure to go to food coop instead now since same hours. 3 yrs ago: This store seems notorious for workers running into shoppers, when they first opened ( 2 yrs ago) I was ran into by a few of the workers, then again last week it happened again and my hand got mildly injured. Brennan filled out the report and I told him that it seemed the workers were under alot of pressure because this keeps happening. A couple of days later Brennen was pushing a cart and told me that my cart shouldn't be in the middle of the isle which seemed kind of rude especially since last time I was on the side of the isle... what does it matter? He also commented to his co workers and laughed about me after telling me this. As a paying customer who also got her hand injured at the store I don't appreciate this unprofessional treatment.
