I made Hal’s Cafe my regular coffee spot while living downtown, you can get a delicious latte here for a great price. Eddis is the best barista ever!! I think his official position is as a bartender, and he definitely uses the same amount of care when making a coffee drink. The folks here are so nice and they learned my usual order quickly - iced vanilla latte with oat milk 😋 Seriously, if you’re downtown and want some coffee come here!! Their espresso is better than nearby coffee shops and the atmosphere is so nice. The food looks delicious too every time I stop in.
Overall good experience :) the drink I had was perfect, the calamari we started off with I forgot to take a picture but that was perfect, and the pizza! Wow very well done! The servers are friendly and it was nice seeing the open floor plan of the kitchen and seeing the wood fire stove for the pizza :) great location!
Absolutely amazing food. I went in with my two girls, to sit at the bar and we all had a lot of fun. The waitress was a sweetheart and the bartender and cook were top notch. We ordered a lavender lemon drop between the three of us, which the bartender split into three small glasses for us, which was such a sweet addition to the experience. The tots were amazing. We also ordered a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and I got a bowl of some of the most delicious lentil soup I've ever tried. The atmosphere was welcoming and cheerful and just everything was perfect. This was my "see-ya-later" send-off dinner for a loved one who was visiting and it was a sweet and memorable for us all. Thank you to the staff that made this night so great for us all!
Fantastic food, desserts, and drinks! We had the basque cheesecake which was amazing, and the seasonal special sandwich with the truffle fries which were divine! Definitely will come back again and recommend trying if you’re in the area.
We stopped into McMenamins Hal’s Café and really enjoyed the atmosphere. It has that classic McMenamins feel: dim lighting, wood accents, and a quiet, relaxed vibe that makes it a great place to unwind or have a comfortable conversation. The food is solid pub fare done well. Everything we had was satisfying and exactly what you want from a cozy neighborhood pub. What really stood out, though, was the service. The staff were attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. If you’re looking for a calm, low-key place in Portland with good pub food and great service, Hal’s is a great choice. Perfect for a quiet meal or an easygoing night out.
Great place to stay, or just for a bite and some great drinks!!! We stayed in the Modest mouse room!!! Road traffic was an issue at night, but they give ear plugs. Not related to McMenamins, but I would park in a garage, tha crows are horrible and our car was covered in droppings!!!
Did 2 beer flights and got to try almost everything on the menu. I wish I had had time to try some of their unique cocktails but breakfast was really good! I got the Mt. Hood scramble with Como toast and country potatoes. The portion size was perfect, the flavors were spot on, and the venue was nice. Definitely would go back again!
Included Dinner & Breakfast in our room package at the Crystal Hotel. Both were amazing. Wait staff are the right amount of friendly and attentive.
Sat outside - sturdy area even in wind, heat helps. Service very friendly and all was chill on this Sunday night. Beet salad good size and fried chicken come surrounded by gravy - so good. Monday morning outside, chill and relaxed service crew was perfect. Nice city vibe sitting outside in the sun.
I think for the experience alone this place is worth your visit. They have a great cocktail menu and a creative food menu. Really nice and quick staff. The restaurant is just really cool, too. The way it’s decorated and the set up make it perfect for a low key meal. They have a big outdoor seating area as well, but I loved sitting inside in a booth. The only reason I didn’t do 5 stars was my breakfast tacos were a little underwhelming. Still good. But everything else was great.
