We went there for a play. Great job by all performers and directors and stage hands. Sometimes the music was too loud and I could not hear the words being spoken.
My daughter has done the summer show two years in a row. It's always fun for her, and the performances, sets, costumes, etc. are great!
My daughter's have both gone here over the years. If you're debating to enroll your kid here then what are you waiting for!?! Do it! It's so rad! Can not say enough good things about this place. Always friendly, professional and just over all good people. 👍
The cost was exorbitant in comparison to similar camps and the quality of the camp. It was basically just a summer camp, I would not call it a theater camp. It was along the lines of the $85 5th grade after school theater camp but she got a lot more experience there. Other drama/theater camps are the same price but the kids get an actual script weeks in advance and they audition. They have actual costumes that fit the characters. AND an actual stage. This location had a 1 step stage with no back stage at all. The narrator did not know the lines and had to read it. During the "play" the AC and the music was so loud that you could not hear the kids at all. And the costumes were a joke. My daughter was Prince Ben, in a skirt. Really?? Even kids playing dress-up look more authentic. At $460 y'all can't even go to goodwill and buy a cheap blue suit? Or 15 cents for a folder to put the script in? If you want the kids to put their script in a folder, then give it to them that way. The script itself is obviously a copy of a copy of a copy etc and had several misspellings. My child was so looking forward to this and even she said she does not want to go back. I don't have photos or videos to share because we were not allowed to take them.
Awesome. I was only able to do Alice In Wonderland, but it was so great!! I played Alice #1, which was really fun. I didn't live in Austin, so it was an hour drive every Thursday. I don't live in Texas anymore, but if you're into acting and are still a child and live near/in Austin, you should totally audition.
Incredible and fun learning to act and what the experience is from start to performance! The kids also learn kindness and reaching out to help each other! Friendships 🧡 are made. Inclusivity is also stressed.🙏
My 7 year old went for Encanto camp here. On the last day, they had a show for the parents to see what the kids have been working on that week. It was amazing to see they ve prepped the kids for a 45 min show in 4 days. The places they rent could be better. Other than that it was the best.
My kids have been engaged in camps and shows at kidsActing for several years. Regardless of instructor, location, or age group they have always enjoyed themselves immensely. The themed, weeklong summer camps, with location spread throughout the city, are perfect bite sized pieces for young thespians-to-be. There is something very exciting for kids as they scramble to learn a part, memorize lines, figure out the blocking, and figure out how to “be” a character- all in the space of a few days, ready to put on a performance on Friday. All while making new acquaintances whom they swear is now “one of my best friends!” There are also class options that run the full school year, with weekly gatherings as they learn and practice skills in the early fall and then start working on developing a show to perform in the spring- (and because of the wide age range, I’ve been fortunate to have multiple kids in the same class/show- THAT really helps with family scheduling!). As the kids progress, you may find yourself (like I have) with burgeoning self-proclaimed “theater nerds”. In this case, there are also opportunities to ratchet up their intensity and dedication level. I currently have two kids in one of the advanced performances and as we close in on the end of the semester with “tech rehearsals” and performances, they’re at the main kidsActing studio 4-5 hours on a Monday night- working hard, but loving every minute of it and growing in their confidence and skills. Just last night, headed home five hours after we had entered the studio, my 10 year old sighed contentedly and said, “Dad, you know how most people dislike Mondays? I’m the opposite. I love Mondays. Having our play to work on is just so much fun, even if it’s a lot of work.” The flexibility and creativity of the kidsActing crew has also really stood out to me over the past year. My kids did FIVE!! virtual acting camps over the COVID summer and told me they were as fun as the in-person summer camps. So truly, kudos to kidsacting, for nurturing a lifelong love of acting in our household.
My 8th grade son has been in productions at KidsActing since 2nd grade, and it's been a great experience. Their model is to have satellite locations all over Austin to rehearse, but then everyone goes to the main theater in East Austin for dress rehearsals and the play itself. This allows them to share the sets and costumes for multiple productions, and they are high quality. We have had several directors, and they've all been awesome. I think acting is such a great skill for kids, and KidsActing is a great place to do it in and around Austin.
My daughter is currently doing her 5th full production play here, and we couldn't be happier. Everyone is SO nice. The owner is amazing, as are all the directors, crew, and production staff. Each show has blown us away. There is such a warm sense of community, with both the staff and the parents. You can tell everyone loves what they're doing. My daughter has made lifelong friends here and says she's never felt so accepted and welcomed (outside of home) as she does here. We are looking forward to many more years with kidsActing.
