This review is just past 1 year of my studio build finishing. So I have had a full year to work in and fall in love with the studio build. Working with Audio Virtue Acoustics was the best decision I could have possibly made for my studio build needs. I renovated around 850 Sq feet of my house to be a dedicated recording studio. We wanted to take the space down to studs and build a truly isolated studio. Zac’s designs masterfully took into account some specific quirks of building in an already existing space and I would argue that the space represents the best possible approach that could have been taken. His designs were very detailed and included a full electrical and HVAC system. One very specific way Zac was a champion for our build was how available and responsive he was to questions. This was crucial throughout the build as a whole, but especially in the beginning he was incredibly hands on while talking to and selecting the right contractors. I think this is probably a big oversight for some projects. But because Zac knew what he was looking for in contractors he was able to help us choose the right team at KCS Building Group to get it done. Thanks to Zac’s drawings, his frequent check-ins, and overall availability our contractors were able to meet every small detail. Every project runs into hiccups and problems to solve. At every turn Zac was able to creatively and calmy find solutions. Zac also got us connected with Mike at SkinnyFish Audio for custom wall panels and running cable through the raceway connecting the control room and tracking room. And Alex at McVey Acoustics for custom built acoustic treatment and install. They and their teams did exceptional work. It was important to me that the tracking room sound very neutral and versatile. Not too lively, and not too dead. That’s exactly what he delivered. All the musicians who have recorded here have said how great it feels to play in the room. The results are what I desperately hoped could be possible, and thanks to Zac I have a dream setup. The recording studio is so isolated from outside noise and the rest of my house, I can work anytime night or day. I recently recorded a string quintet over two days. On day 1, three of my neighbors all decided to mow their lawns because it was going to rain. On day 2 it rained and thundered like crazy all day long. Nothing stopped us from recording and the musicians didn’t realize any of that was going on. The custom silent AC system keeps the room at 72 degrees and 45% humidity so it’s just a really pleasant space to work in. A tornado touched down a half mile up the road from my house. My wife and I sheltered in place in the tracking room and didn’t even know the tornado had touched down (phone and internet were down). My studio is compact, versatile, and professionally competitive. I couldn’t be happier with the results. I’ve worked in many many studios so I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted in my own space. Zac was able to interpret my own taste and preferences, work within the restraints of my space and budget, and design exactly what I wanted. It’s awesome.
What an amazing journey it’s been constructing my recording studio here in NY. I started doing my research into acoustic engineers early in the pandemic and spoke to many of the big players in the field. I immediately connected with Zac both on a personal and professional level. He really understood what I was after and streamlined the process. The studio design is probably the biggest decision one can make in this process and can get extremely overwhelming with all the options and variables but Zac made me feel very comfortable and never missed an opportunity to explain all the options in front of me during the entire process. We were in contact for almost 2 years from the start of the planning to the grand opening. He was personally involved every step of the way including working with my architect to design the structure and working with my contractor during construction. I personally oversaw this highly specialized construction in NY and Zac was there to answer all my texts and calls if something came up in the field. His personal touch is exceptional. At the end of the construction he even personally delivered the acoustic treatment with his team and they installed every piece. The studio is really a dream come true. It is my second home. My sanctuary. And I have Zac and his team to thank for it. I give them the highest recommendation possible. Stellar.
Zac started working with me more than 2-1/2 years ago and has been a steady hand throughout my build, which is just a few finishing touches away from completion. The design is beautiful, the building feels great to be in, and the room sounds amazing. When I finally institute all of Zac's recommendations,. this will be an absolute world-class tracking room (out in the hidden countryside of Virginia). My intent is to use good microphones to record acoustic music in said tracking room. Steinway piano, drum sets, stringed instruments, vocals. Old school high-fidelity. The room treatment isn't yet fully in place, but the space already renders detail astonishingly well. I would guess it's the nicest practice room within 100 miles of here right now. Once the treatment is in place, it will be a magnificent recording room. Beautiful sound. Beautiful aesthetics. Expert guidance all the way through the project, and at a very reasonable cost for such a high-level service. I cannot recommend Audio Virtue highly enough. When the room is complete, I'll upload photos.
Zac expertly assisted us in our ground up Studio build. His knowledge about soundproofing, acoustic properties, clean power, parallel spaces, heating and air, etc. were instrumental to creating a highly usable space. It turned out so much better than we could have imagined. The acoustic treatment was the icing on the cake. With an endless amount of design choices and fabrics, we were able to create a space that was aesthetically pleasing and as well as terrific to listen and record. Highly recommended!!
Zac and his team are incredible. They turned my bonus room into an amazing acoustically treated studio, even despite some flaws within the room itself. Not only did they do so, but they worked within my budget and was able to make it as flawless as possible. Would recommend these guys EVERY time!
Zac is highly competent, professional, and easy to work with. He helped us design a music rehearsal space in our home,…from room dimensions, to construction, to internal treatments. The process and results exceeded our expectations. I look forward to our next project.
Zac worked with us a couple times to provide acoustic treatments as well as help design our rooms. Throughout both projects he was prompt, knowledgeable, and friendly.
Zac and crew did an incredible job on my small room! I typically bounce between writing sessions, recording and mixing and the design/sound is perfect. Highly recommend!!!
I have worked with Zac on treating two different studios now and he has done a great job on both! Him and the team are professional and know how to make any room sound great!
Zac designed my string tracking room here in Nashville, and built and installed all of the acoustic treatments. Turned out amazing, couldn't be happier.
